U.S. Peavey Club

SMH. Had a Peavey bass I was interested in, and from the pics posted on the craigslist ad, I deduced the seller was also a fellow talkbass member. This person happened to be near where I was playing this past weekend, and the price was right, so I contacted them. I made it clear I had cash in hand, and that I would be willing to pay for their time and gas if they could meet me at one of the spots I was playing. That wasn't possible, due to their schedule (completely understandable), but, as a last minute decision, the band spent the night in the area. I emailed the seller again, making it clear that I could now meet at pretty much any time during the day on Saturday, and that I could now drive to meet up with them. Seller replied that there was an issue they hadn't seen with the bass, and that the price would be lowered to make up for the issue. I replied and said it wasn't an big deal, and that I was still happy to meet up and make things happen. From that point up to now, all communication from their side stopped. Tried emailing several different times, but I'm being ignored. Now, all listings have been removed. I'm a little miffed, to say the least.

For anyone dealing with people, either here or through craigslist: please have some common courtesy. If you have decided to not sell something anymore, but have people interested, don't just ignore them. If you sold the item to someone else, tell the people who are interested, so they don't sit around waiting for a reply. The absolute worst thing you can do is to just ignore a person. Unless the person is an obvious scammer (which I'm not), have some decency and reply, even if it's something as quick and simple as "item is sold" or "sorry can't meet up" or whatever. It takes 10 seconds of your day to do this, and it will prevent any confusion or needless waiting.

Very crappy cell phone pic for you Bigtruck.
I'm loving the silver. I was telling my girlfriend it would be so cool if the metalflake was bigger flakes, kind of like "Mother Of Bass Boat" flakes. But that's another bass for another day.

IME, there is no difference in neck and bridge pickups, with the exception of magnetic polarity, in any Peavey bass where the same style is used for both. Super Ferrites will have one with north up and the other south. The Axcellerator 5 pickups are active humbuckers so just put them in where the wire length works best.

Looks great! I'm stoked you dug the Axcelerator and found one! I strung mine with Chromes flat wound strings and I really like what I'm getting!

I'm looking for some info as the gods are conspiring to bankrupt me.
There's a 85 Patriot with SFs up for sale that would cost around $300 to get to Scotland or
a 92 Fury down in England that will probably go for $200. Both American made.

I'm quite interested in hearing the super ferrites but the Fury with chromes gets rated as all the P-bass you'll
ever need.

What's your feelings on this guys ?

I've own an '87 Patriot and had a '92 Fury along with it for a good while, so I was able to A/B them a bit. I ended up giving the Fury to my dad, as, tone-wise, they sounded pretty similar, to my ear. The Patriot may have a little more edge to it's tone, but not a ton. For me, it came down to 'P neck (Patriot) or J neck (Fury)'. I'm not a J neck kinda guy, so the Patriot won out.

Strangely I was drawn to the Patriot, the Fury just seems like a generic P-Bass. I'm sure that's not the case but it's
darn hard to tell from just a photo. USA Peaveys being few and far between in the UK and expensive, $750 is typical
for a T-40, it's a godsend having TB'ers who'll help out with info.

I will also say- fit & finish and hardware is much better on the Patriot, and I would imagine, most 80's Peavey's. The Fury and 90's Peavey's in general, while still excellent basses, have always felt cheaper to me, overall. Nineties are, IMO, closer to MIM Fender quality, but can be made to play and sound much better than most would suspect. Eighties Peaveys seem to be much higher quality... not necessarily MIA, but perhaps MIJ.

I have an 87 Fury in white with the Duncan hot P pickup and a Chandler tort guard....it is an excellent bass in feel and sound, though the Duncan is noisier at times than I would like but manageable, it is very punchy.

The neck on this bass like my 85 Foundation is outstanding in feel...it feels like a worn in J bass neck.

I still need to tighten the necks on each a bit more....both were way out of adjustment...I have Fender flats on both now....very nice, love these basses but the Foundation is just a bit too heavy for me at times.....Fury is surprisingly lighter.
