No I was.loosening the truss rod to add more relief and the range of adjustment ended and the nut was spinning really.easy. hence I used the term min'd out rather than maxxed out. I had to swap for a set with a little more tension, and also waiting a day helped.

High humidity will cause this sometime, not sure what environment you are in. I almost ruined a neck while living in a house with a swamp cooler, air conditioning dried it back out in a few days.

A note from Peavey Customer Support says this is indeed a 1984 and that the body is poplar. Also noted that there are no parts available for this vintage bass! Ha!
I am impressed with their response though. I love attentive customer support.

Earlier today I switched out the Chi-sonic in my Forum for a Sarzo humbucker wired to a three way switchthat was series/single coil/parallel for the Chi but seems to be off/series/parallel with the Sarzo. Through my GK 410 Backline it somes a little deeper/fuller, but I'll have a much better idea if it's a real improvement when I play through the big system at church on Sunday.

The Peavey Pleasure came visiting again this week in the shape of a 91 model TL-5 and a Unity.

I'm not really one for 5 strings but TL's don't come in 4s Trust me there's a beautiful flame on this,just my
camera skills are woefully lacking. Settled in to the Scottish climate in no time. This is one classy bass,Tim knows
his onions,maybe a SF version will join the clan but for now I ain't that bothered. Repeat /\ /\ /\.

The Unity I got from fellow TB'er @moonshinegtrs . Instantly I was smitten,no set up required just tuned and it came
with flats One of my quirks appeared on first playing this,hadn't listened to Dio for years so thought I'd play along
with "The last in Line". Unity with flats sounded better to me than Jimmy Bain on a Yamaha with rounds These quirks
of mine have a habit of being polar opposite

This TL-5 is a '94. A bit of a beater, but I got it for a decent price, and she plays and sounds great.

The purple forum came from Doctor Cheese. I paid maybe a tad more than they are going for, but this one is as clean as you're going to find. This one is "Holy mother of God" heavy. One of these days, I'll post a pic of the Peavey family.

I recently bought a peavey millenium MIA in a beautiful teal color but the stacked mid control pot is sticky when you turn the the gain or freq knob. when you turn one knob the other knob turns with it. Is this something that in your experience is something that some deoxit spray would clean or should i get in touch with peavey customer service? THanks

Try the knobs themselves. Sometimes the upper knob is physically touching and moving the lower knob. Try loosening the set screw, moving the upper knob out/up/away from the lower one just a hair, then tighten that screw.

I've not changed the strings yet on my JJ Millennium. Came with a set of roundwounds....don't know how old but they are definitely not heavy gauge and are very lively. I'm not happy with them at all. The bass sounds good and of course EQ is very versatile but I just don't get the low end grunt that I think I should be able to achieve without some severe EQ ing. It just seems more balanced to the high end. I'm blaming much of it on the strings. So what are you guys using for strings on your mills? I'm thinking start with a set of Slinky's, I can use them somewhere else if I don't like them. But I'm very open to other ideas.

EDIT: Should I expect this bass to be higher voiced and thinner sounding than my passive Peavey's? It does just not sound throaty and meaty like I would expect an 18V pre to sound. Is there a possibility that I need to do a battery change?

@Runnerman ....IME any type of J pickup will need a good amount of EQ to have what I consider good low end but I'm not into the Flea or Jaco sound. I don't remember which passive basses you have but I can say that all my passives with Super Ferrites, VFLs (any version) or '80s Fury split Ps need no low end boost where my USA Grind V that has Js needs a good bit of low/low mid to satisfy me. Whether a preamp is run on 18V or 9V should not change it's basic sound. It will change the preamps head room and an 18V preamp should not be able to be distorted by any signal supplied by pickups with proper height adjustment.

I think you are on the right track with the strings. Slinkeys will still be bright. I've found the SIT nickel strings to be a good compromise between low end and brightness and they are affordable.

Thanks Mech. I have SF, split P and VFL(Grind) passive Peavey basses. I also own a Fender Jazz (passive) and it seems to support more low end but I haven't A-B'd to be honest. I have slinkys on it. Maybe part of my problem is that I'm comparing this bass to my Bongo with it's 18V pre and buckers....and maybe that's a bad comparison.

I'm going to try strings first. Maybe look at pickup height too. The Millennium does sound great with headphones. The fact is I love the way this bass looks and plays and I'll do what it takes to make it work.

Perhaps novelty, or maybe the tone pot on my jazz bass freaking out at the end of last practice, so I left the american standards at home and took the peaveys out for this band's first gig last night. It was a 30 minute set so I stuck with just the foundation the whole set while the milestone II hung unsed as backup. In hindsight, I wish I had switched basses for the last song, which we ended up turning to an extended jam for 7 minutes, just because.

The tone of the foundation was just so damn solid!

Few weeks back I had a line on a Dyna/Unity and need help arranging shipping. By the time I approached
@mech it had been sold. Lucky for me it was mech I asked as he kindly offered me his Dyna/Unity

Only SITs I have are a 4 string set but there's a Sadowsky Blue 5 set I've been meaning to try,good excuse,
or the half rounds I never used.

I have one, too. Love the neck and the way it plays. Good balance. I used the electronics from a BXP with mid control to build it up. The PUs are a little anemic and need more low and low-mid EQ than I normally use but I would do that for most Jazz sounding PUs. I painted the back of the neck and the nib on the front matte black. Just didn't look right natural. The maple was plain vanilla anyway. The side markers on the neck are a great detail.
