Some of you have already seen this, but
I recently acquired a 1984 Fury with the slanted Super Ferrite pickup, and it has wildly exceeded my expectations.
I expected something very similar to the ‘90s models (sleek Precision copies with skinny but substantial necks) but found it an altogether different animal—or
beast! The wide, shallow neck has the same nut width as my
5-string ATK, an all-around substantial instrument in its own right. I can tune from EADG to CGCF without any need of truss rod adjustment. What a burly bass!
Of possible interest to the club:
First, I would still like the option of adjusting the truss rod, and there’s got to be a better way than what I have been doing with my Peavey basses (it literally involves a bit driver, a socket, and a monkey wrench). If anybody wants to sell me a dedicated tool for the job or can point me toward such a thing, please send me a direct message.
Second, I will be parting ways with my white ‘90s Fury. It has seen better days, but it still plays; if you might want it for a beater or parts, again, please send me a direct message.
Feel the Fury!
