Victor Wooten now using D'Addario Strings

I don't like the chorus-y affect but I am also not in denial about the tone people hear at shows, it's very minor in my day to day situation. Tone hounds in small clubs with 4 people watching always amuse me.

I am with you on chorus-y sounding strings not being cool. I am just speaking from personal experience that you can get this effect if the pickup is too close to the string and that this effect is definitely more prominent with certain brands.

Oh, and my bass does hum but only because it doesn't know the words! :p

This isn't accurate - there are string manufacturers that make their own wire as well.

I agree the ProSteels are very bright out of the box. After about 2-3 weeks (depending on how much playing I do on that bass) is when they hit the sweet spot for me.

LOL, not at all. We will still be making and selling that set. They will go back to being called our 4-string Extralight set.

I recently compared D'Addario XL Nickel (.45 - .105), with DR Low Rider Nickel.

DR Low Riders are more scoopy, D'Addario XL Nickel more mid focused.. Also, D'Addario are more responsive on with a light touch on fundamentals and harmonics...

DR's are smoother to the touch out of the box..

Both are great strings for different things.... I play them both! Hey why not "Who cares"??????

DRs have the right combination of mid-range harmonics and have a stiffer string, even the DR Hi Beams that don't have a hex center. And last much longer. Anyway, again I recommend to try yourself. For me a better string means a string I like to play and I don't need to spend $25-$30 every month on a set.

I like me some D'addario's. I went from them to DR and back now that I have more basses. I don't care who plays them, who likes or who hates 'em.

What I do care about is that D'addario should offer tension-balanced string sets (without the player having to order individual strings), and their entire line of strings in scale lengths to fit Dingwall basses.

Agree...DR specially the medium taper core have the right touch to any bass instrument...be a 4,5, even 6 string bass.

They last longer, much brighter and Most importantly, Better Tonality than Daddarios...what...!

Victor Wooten is an industry whore who will say/play anything for a dollar. From power cords that improve his tone, to battery readers that let him know when his batteries are gonna die, to Hartke amps, the man has proven his integrity is non-existent when it comes to promoting anything. What he uses means nothing and he markets these products for profit using his image to imply that the buyer will be a better player for buying it.

Yes, sure, that is why he plays music style which is mostly unknown world wide. Most people do not know who is Wooten, as he is not really a pop diva....
His integrity is in his focus for music.
