Excellent video, great playing, and the bass sounds amazing! If you're ever inspired to make another video with one of your Wal's, could you maybe give more demonstration of the different tones you can get from the filter pre-amp, and PLEASE include a good demonstration of the pick-attack feature!

That one has come up for sale a couple of times over the years. No big surprise for a 20+ year old instrument, really, but the unusual slap guard makes it a bit more memorable. Never having seen it in person, I always assumed the light section in the middle of the top was paduak sapwood or something, so it's interesting to know that it's a section of maple.

I had a white one that had been around...the easy way to find it is to look at all the white pics and the one with the yellowed headstock is the one...

Mikezimmerman, judging by the pics it looks like the lighter middle section of the top (the one under the pickups) is just a lighter part of the bookmatched paduak top; I think that when ursus mentioned maple, he was referring to the thin veneer between the top wood and the mahogany core.

Needless to say that I apologize if I'm wrong ;-)

What strings did you put on it, and what are the tone settings when you're demonstrating the "Geddy Lee" tone? I have a hard time to get that nice snap on my MkII. But could be due to the strings or setup.

I am not sure what the strings are as they came on the bass...they feel like some kind of steels....tone settings are volume on full, blend at BT...the middle and the other two are both pushed in at 8

That's pretty much where I set mine too: steel strings, and tones on 8 or 8.5, all knobs down...lovely growl.

Thanks a lot for the answers. That's where I tried to set the controls as well .

Must be then the set of Super Slinky's I've put on my MkII, and maybe the ebony board is a bit less growly. Also, the setup on mine is very clean almost without fret buzz. The tone in Jaymi's video sounds a bit as if there is always a bit of string buzz.

Somebody also mentioned pole piece settings earlier in the thread, but I couldn't find any pointers on how that effects the tone.

Craving for insight (and a Wal 5 string... )
