Wal Bass Club.

A great example of your statement is JC himself.....before i got a Wal i always wondered why he was playing stuff so far up the neck on the E string, when the note(s) could have been easily dropped to another string.....Top string is way more "chirpy/growl" than the others.

Nice, i made that exact observation myself too :)
The difference between E and A string is startling, just about anyone notices it. The E string just has that punch and grind i just love from Chancellor, while the A string carries a lot more voice and snarl, but less oomph. On songs like Schism where he plays open strings on higher strings in between a riff the tones just leap out and sometimes sound like a different instrument.
G and D just sing the unique Wal voice, it's really great.

I love that... more possibilities. You shouldn't be shy to race the neck though :) i play one line that would be very easy if i used three strings, but since it would sound uneven i race up and down the E string like a maniac. Makes a simple line really fun and since i slide into some of the tones it sounds better this way too. Main reason was to really keep the foundation even, but it evolved into something more.

Alright Wal family,

Unfortunately I have made the decision to man up and sell my Wal. My wife and I are currently struggling financially and it really isn't practical for me to hang on to this gorgeous instrument. It's a dream come true, but it is something I can hopefully someday replace down the road when things are more stable. If it were not for my current situation I would never, ever, even consider parting with this bass. It was an honest love-at-first-play.

I wanted to reach out and see if there was any interest within the Wal group.

Serial # 4034 - The magic color-changing Wal

**Some pictures have some of the backplate screws missing. I have them all, and they were only removed to photograph.

**Depending on the light, indoor/outdoor, the color changes from an array of blue, grey, and purple.

PM me if interested. I would be more than happy to take any additional pictures or answer any questions.

Thanks!

I believe Oddio had given me #3, not that I'm big on all these clubs. I'm down from a high of five Wals to just one, one of Paul's first. I haven't been playing any bass for the past few years.

Finally got around to taking some pictures of my new/old 1981 Wal Custom Bass. This one sports a number of rare transitional features such as the paddle headstock, 9piece laminate body, bookmatched european ash facings, lightweight @ 9lbs 7oz, and the original custom roadcase. She's been through ALOT of the years - the common headstock finish cracking, dropped at some point and some repair work has been done at the output jack, and the neck's been broken off at the heel. The work done to reconstruct the neck looks marvelous, and this bass plays really nicely- low action, a thinner neck than my previous '85 Wal Mk1. and I appreciate it being under 10lbs. Man I'm a sucker for big headstocks.

I have a question...Why is it that everybody seems to be so infatuated with the MKII model. Same electronics, pickups, etc as the MKIII and the MKIII has a more balanced body that is lighter and more comfortable to hold and play on. Seems like the MKIII is a hands down winner over the MKII but all i hear is people raving about the MKII. Is it strictly looks? Just curious, i figured i'd ask a group of Wal owners. Next week i'll be a Wal owner :-) My Wal should arrive in the mail this tuesday, and I cant wait!

I think they look a little cooler too i just wondered if thats the only reason ppl rave about them. They look cool but i'd rather have something that weighs less and is more comfortable to use. Do the MKI's neck dive at all? They have a pretty short horn I was wondering if their necks dive down a little compared to the MK2's and 3's
