One of my Wals has a filter pot with some minor static that I can't get rid of, and I'm worried that it will eventually become a bigger issue. Paul at Wal hasn't returned my emails or calls requesting to buy a replacement (understandable considering how busy the shop is), so if someone has a working pot - or a defective board that still has one working filter pot on it - I'd be glad to take it off their hands!

It most likely be that he would prefer to do the work on it.
Most folks simply ship in their preamp boards to have all the updates done, and he can replace the pot while he's doing that.
You don't need to call/email him for that, just ship them in with your notes on what needs done, he'll email you when he gets it.

If these pots are the older (mid 87-older) with small diameter shafts, then you'll need to send your knobs so he can resize it to fit the new pot.

I've ordered replacement parts from Paul before, including filter pots, and he knows that my tech can do the switchouts with no issue (last time I ordered a filter pot was in 2021), and back then he confirmed he would sell me the new 6mm-spline versions and new knobs to go into my older Wals if required... Unfortunately now that I do actually require one of each, he's not replying. Hence my putting it out there to the universe, so to speak.

I get that part...
My understanding from someone that's near him, is he's currently back to working alone, so I can guess computer time for him is much much less than before.

Which is why I suggested just send your boards in. There are IIRC five resistors that get updated along with caps. Thinking this would just be faster and easier than waiting an eternity for one email reply *if* it even happens.

And it's a big if. I've emailed several times over the past couple of years trying to confirm that I am, actually, on the deposit waiting list and I've never heard a peep. It's alright, while I've lusted after a Wal for several decades, it's a ridiculous expenditure, so if it isn't meant to be it's far from the end of the world.

Seemingly out there thought but... have you tried contacting him through his ebay store?

I mention that because when I ordered a set of rear cavity screws from there I asked... something, I don't even remember, and he got right back to me (!)

I tried searching for the Wal eBay store but nothing came up aside from instruments sold by independent sellers. If you still have it saved in your My eBay activity feel free to post the link!

Yup, simply put, you waited too long. But I would suggest taking the boards out and sending them to Paul for refurbishing. Your particular boards will also have the five tiny gray/orange-tip resistors that will also need changing. They're very tightly positioned to work with, and "okay" solder skills is making me think twice about a DIY recommendation.

No drift, but they can crack at the legs or crumble.

Hello all

Can anyone advise what screws I need for a Wal Mk 1 bridge? The ones on my Pro 1 are badly rusted and I would like to replace them.
