What are you playing? and Why?

Walkabout Scout since the only "gigging" I do is in my living room, lol. It has more than enough power for that, but the tone is to die for.

Two rigs:

A 64 Ampeg B-15N with an Altec speaker. Nearly always run through the FOH. Why? Because it's the best sounding bass amp ever made for soul, old-school R&B, etc.

I play a pre-CBS (1962) Jazz through it. Why? Because I see no point in playing anything else.

The other rig right now is an EA iAmp-800 through one or two EA CXL112's. Why? Because it covers everything the above can't.

Sunn Bass Coliseum 300
Basson B115
Acme B2
SX PJ 5
MIM Jazz (BEAD)
Gibson Ripper
Conklin GT5

Its what survived the economic downturn.

Right now I've got two rigs:

GK 1001RB-II and Neo 212. I play in a RHCP tribute band and need the GK sound. And while it definitely has a signature tone to it, it is a very versatile rig and I have used it for a lot of different gigs/musical styles.

Carvin B1500 and Acme Low B4. HUGE sounding. This rig is pretty much only used for my dub band. Would be awesome for a number of styles but not hard edged rock stuff. Very clean and deep.

I also have a TecAmp Puma 1000 that I will be pairing with an LDS 15/6/1 to hopefully replace my dub rig as well as my jazz-pop gig and my new acoustic guitar/fretless bass duo my buddy and I have started. I have high hopes for this rig. Under 60 lbs total (including bass!) and still putting 1000 W into 8 ohms. :bassist:

i am currently using a carvin r 1000 head and a br 410 cab.i purchased the head very reasonable and the power and sound from this amp is amazing.it has the the tube preamp
its not to heavy and the sounds i can get from this amp are amazing.great amp at a good price.

GK 800RB
I heard it was good. Found it used. My cool but overcomplicated M2000 was too much to tweak on the fly live. Traded it in. Turns out it IS good! The 1 MOhm input is great for my upright, too.

GB Neox212
I heard it was good. Found it used. Turns out it IS good! Recently, I'm finding out how nicely it does with my upright.

Old GK 210T
Came with my 800RB. Package deal. Turns out it's pretty OK, but really shines in big boomy live rooms where my 212 is pretty much untameable.

(I killed the speaker in my BBT110s. :( I'll always keep that peavey, though!)

This went back to the store:

Light is nice, but it didn't have the tone of the GK. I A/B'd, and all I noticed was that I played more soulfully through the 800RB, my fingers just kept wanting to play. The LM11... just didn't bring out that same feeling.

I am all over the place with rigs and always have been. After a lot of testing, I think I am good for a while.

I decided I am a 4x10 guy so my cabs are....

Sadowsky SA410
Ampeg SVT410 (older ported model made in China)
Mesa Powerhouse 410
.... Still keep an old Ampeg MIA 2x10 for home and small gigs.

Heads.... I have always been a gear freak.... but I am VERY happy with my current heads (I gig and rehearse with them almost equally)...

Ampeg SVT-CL
Genz Benz ShuttleMax 12.0
GK 1001RB-II

A Mark Bass Little Mark II and Jazz bass are my usual weapons of choice ...

Cab wise I usually use two 1x10 mini cabs and DI as needed (we play a lot of blues clubs),
but I experiment a lot, pictured is a prototype 2x10 sealed cab over my 1x15 and I'm working on
a prototype 1x12. I have a preference for light and portable rigs with a lot of punch.

:smug: ...

Light weight rig: iAmp Micro 300 head and EA Wizzy 110. 300 watts, under 20 lbs, very comfortable.

Slightly heavier rig: Shuttle 6.0 and AccuGroove Tri110. 300 watts (into 8 ohms), and rich velvety tone, but by no means a sledge hammer. 35 lbs.

Heavier still, but still light weight: Shuttle 6.0, Epifani UL2-210. 600 watts (into 4 ohms), ~45 lbs. Serious kick, plenty of oomph, and clarity. Almost too much clarity.

I unloaded the heavy rig a while back--- AccuGroove Whappo Jr, but I'm starting to reconsider. I predict a 410 in my future, an AE410 or a UL2-410.

Duhhhh... you can see all this in my TB Profile. Everyone else's too!
