My homebrew club did a taste comparison with the different varieties. Very cool that they did that.

Certified Evil is an awesome strong Belgian dark. I usually reserve beers like this for cold winter days, but I think some of the wine barrel aging adds a certain sweetness that could work.

I wish more of the local brewpubs could bottle, but I'm starting to get spoiled with all of the great local beers, including my own. :smug:

If I ever find a place that has this amber love nectar on tap, I might just stay there until I drain the keg.

Please don't hate me for this but they sell it by the 22oz bottle at my local Safeway ;)

Envy, maybe, but not hate.

I've seen the Lagunitas IPA in big bottles at a couple of the grocery stores in my area, but not the Little Sumpin'. Believe me, I'll be keeping a close eye out now.

EDIT: Per Lagunitas' website, they don't do the Little Sumpin' in big bottles.

I can buy it at my local liquor mart but it's not cheap. I have bought it on occasion though.

Hmm ... I definitely picked up some in big bottles there a bit back. Maybe it was one of their seasonal 22oz-ers? I'll have to go look ...

edit: Yes, it originally came out as a special, but now it's a year-round regular. The one I saw in Safeway last week was the "Little Sumpin' Wild" seasonal special - same malt, same hops, different yeast.

edit2: The brewery has a tap room. Bit of a long drive up from Pasadena, but Russian River Brewing and a bunch of others are all within 20 min drive or so.

OK - so you're from California and you have a Rolling Rock bottle as your Avatar?!? Excuse me, but I have lived all my life in Pennsylvania (Rolling Rock is not exactly a great regional beer) and I actually went to Chico as a pilgrim to taste the sacred nectar that emanates from there. Anyway, I think Summerfest is a great lager, especially when compared to Rolling Rock. Blasphemy, sheer blasphemy! :p

My avatar pic was taken in Maui, and the Rolling Rock was the only cold beer in our condo at the time. It's not my first choice when better brews are available, but honestly, I don't mind the stuff on a hot day.

The SN Summerfest was okay, and I drank the 6'er, but there was something about it that struck me odd, and I won't be getting it again. If you dig it, that's great. In general, I love SN's brews.

I hadn't had it in a while and decided to pick up a 6 pack since it was on sale.

I don't remember the apricot popping this much or it being so sweet. Definitely going to sit in my fridge for a while.

The other night the wife and I went to a place called the Winking Lizard Tavern. They have an obscene amount of beers available. I tried this stuff from the Columbus Brewing Company called Big Frank. It's a Belgian IPA, but man, that's some of the best tasting stuff I've ever had. It's kind of like if Leinenkugel Summer Shandy were and IPA. It had the hoppiness of a double IPA but the you could taste the citrus flavor like the Summer Shandy. So far, it's the best stuff yet. The only problem is that they don't bottle it. You have to find a local bar where they have it on tap and then you have to hope they still have it, since it's only available during the month of June. Here's a link. Check under Hop Odyssey.
