I've learnt that the platitude that no good deed goes unpunished is not true, but that doesn't stop good deeds from being taken for granted and remaining largely unappreciated.
I learned that other Realtors can be really unprofessional. 
And I learned that my wife, for the most part, is incapable of empathy.
Unfortunately as I typed this, I realized that I didn't learn these things today, I was simply reminded of them.

Today I learned that my Bride (secretly) wants a dog, too!!!
Our daughter and her family have lived in Australia for the past decade. We've been 6 times...and when you go all the way 'round the world, you don't stay for a long weekend. That's (the need to travel for extended periods) always been the deal breaker regarding having a dog come to share our lives.
Now we know that the wheels are in motion, and that they'll be moving back 'home' sometime in the New Year!
I've heard wonderful things about retired greyhounds.

Ive learnt that grade 1 and 2 students will always put a fight scene in to a school drama activity, regardless of the theme/topic.

I learned that even lowly me can innocently start a thread about a current news topic and it unexpectedly goes off the rails and ends up locked. I don't know if I should be honored, or ashamed.
I also learned (some might say very very late in life) that sometimes anonymous internet posts solicit opinions and discussion, but turns out the OP really isn't interested in any opinions that don't agree with his. I'm a slow learner.

i learned today that nordstrand makes EMG35 size pickups (that should fit my hofner shorty!)
i learned yesterday something worth sharing - pigs can swim! there's a family of feral domestic pigs on an island in the bahamas who have become a tourist attraction. they swim out to meet tourists (who i figure must feed them), then hang out. lots of tourists have posted pics of the pigs swimming out to meet their boats. and there's an official website

I didn't understand if the gift from G'year goes to all of the city's newborns, or just the lil ones born at the hospital where the big guys were born...
