What did you learn today?

I learned that every problem on TalkBass can be cured by a cat giph...

Today I learned that for the last 20 or so years, someone I work with has been wasting what amounts to thousands of hours because they didn't know an Excel spreadsheet could be sorted. Everyone has accepted that the way she's been doing it is the only way. When she's been on vacation, others did it based on her instructions. Now I'm doing it cuz she's going away and for the first time in decades, it's been realized that she's been doing it like a moron. I don't even know if I should say anything.

I deal with the same type of thing where I work. We are getting rid of paper and working mostly with PDF's. It astounds me how some people fight it every inch of the way.

I recently learned my company is paperless. We tell prospective customers that we're paperless. We go through about 50 boxes of paper a week. 500 reams. A week. But we're paperless.

I suggest writing new instructions and passing them out without comment.

Recently I had a discussion with someone who was printing the PDF's I sent her. She would then put the printed file in the order she liked and scan it again. I showed her how to move pages around on a PDF and she nodded her head with a faraway look in her eyes. Later that day I saw her printing PDF's again.

Learned that much improvements are needed with the audio connection of the video conference system between the facility here and an engineering firm in China. Audio had a lovely, timed, low-screech feedback(decaying) that sounded not unlike an old playground swingset that was very much in need of oiling. A similar sound can be made if you call a speaker phone with your cell phone and place your cell phone close enough to the speaker phone to start feedback. Add in the time lag for a round trip to China and there you have it!
Oh, it did get recorded on a Zoom H2 I carry to all meetings. I'll cut the sound out and dump it up here if I get time so you too can enjoy.

REALLY painful and amusing to sit through for an hour and a half when you are spoiled with good audio gear at home and in your cubicle.

I've seen worse. People who need a calculator to add up the numbers on the spreadsheet...
