What did you learn today?

I'm really good at delayed gratification and seeing the long picture, but today I made a decision that helps me instantly. The tradeoff may be that I get hurt later... but the other possibility is that I would have got REALLY hurt later if I'd stuck with the long picture. I made the decision and don't regret it. I will sleep much better tonight than I did last night.

Now.....THAT'S a pretty freakin' tough act to follow!!!
Amazing! Megamazing :jawdrop: Wrote itself, that one. Sucked me in, well and truly ;) But now, trying my luck, here's another shot at the title.

I learnt that, not only can one get sucked into supermassive black holes, you can also very easily be sucked into the infinite vertiginous vortices of the sidebar. It's always a buzz when that happens … :beaver:

But, on this particular occasion this smoothest of scientific stories popped up - one for the musically minded. Competition between men drove evolution of deep voices, researchers say

If we're to believe this science, a secret weapon of love - the deeper voice - has served humans, and other animals blessed with bass, since the dawn of time, to intimidate the competition, and, consequently, get the girl.

Believe it or not, smoldering smoochers like dear old Barry White, who saved my life, are the real stars in Singles Bars. Yes indeedy! it's now official. Contrary to popular belief, it's actually bass men, not goofy guitarists, who get all the chicks :woot: … The truth is out down there.

I learnt today that the Cook Islands has an awesome $20 bill with a naked woman riding a shark.

I found that there are some home remedies to treat uvulitis.

I like the bit about consuming more honey the best but I assume the turmeric and ice one would also be very effective, though nowhere near as tasty. Gargling warm salty water is what my doctor would have me do. Get well soon, OP.

Below are some of the home remedies that can help you treat swollen uvula:

  • In case dehydration is the root cause of a swollen uvula, drink lots of water. Drink at least 10 - 12 glasses per day. You may also drink orange juice to help hydrate your body to speed up the recovery process.

  • Mix ½ a tablespoonful of turmeric in a glass of water and add 2 – 3 ice cubes, this works best for treating uvulitis. Drink the mixture after 5 minutes.

  • Add a pinch of salt in lukewarm water and drink (gargling). This is an effective way of treating inflammation and pain of the uvula.

  • Consume more honey. Its anti-bacteria properties are very effective in treating uvulitis.

  • Chew 2 - 3 cloves of garlic on a daily basis. This relieves pain and irritation in the uvula.

  • Drink tea made with basal leaves to help treat uvulitis.

  • Chew ice chips for as long as your throat can sustain, the cold helps relieve swelling by numbing the area for a short time.

What did I learn today? Do not tear one stamp off a 100-stamp roll. You will not be able to separate it from the backing. You may tear off several stamps together, and successfully remove them from the backing, or you may remove one stamp from the backing then tear the backing off the roll. But do NOT tear one stamp off the roll still attached to the backing... unless you have 10 minutes to waste.

When our IT group installs IE 11, everything is firewalled except Corp. sites.
Then you call them, they charge your Dept. 15 minutes phone desk help, and they VNC into your PC and take out one MicroSloth "KBxxxxx" item that hoses their firewall listing.

Takes about 1 hour.

I learnt that male peacocks shake their tail-feathers in such a way as to produce low frequency sound.

This 'train-rattling, pulsating low frequency sound, almost inaudible to us, can be an irresistible groove, if you happen to be a peahen. It does help to be a consummate pro peacock, we're told. Charlie Darwin, who caught the show, down the local one gin-soaked Friday night in '77, figured that it was just the dancing and the sound that got the results. It turns out he was wrong.

There's more to it. Those 'eye-spots', when shaken, not stirred, produce dynamic iridescence. And, the more color in those eye-spots, the better the outcome. Peacocks ROCK!
