What happened to Hadrien Feraud?!

So why has your light missed the people that originally brought up the point about him being fired? Do you just shine your light on Black posters?

Sorry, didn't see "black poster" in any of your profiles.

Even average players that gig know that when the person that hires you to do something you do it or you don't take the job.

Right, and the importance of that lesson is so paramount and earth shattering that I think we can all walk away now fully enlightened. Thanks for your contribution.

What happened? Did I steal your lunch money as a kid?

No. You just set off my BS Detector.

Now check out this guy Phil!

I can't help but feel sorry for Hadrien where this (and other similar threads are concerned). Here's a young guy who has put in the work and has developed into a high level instrumentalist. Whether his playing is to every individual's taste or not isn't the issue - the man can play some serious bass. But sorry Hadrien - you live in a time where, due to the miracles of modern technology, your every move can be scrutinized internationally at the touch of a button. Rumours (or truths) that once may have been confined to a small circle can now circulate freely and at one thousand times the speed. And if you mess up during a solo, don't worry - someone in the audience will have captured it on an iPhone and will no doubt post it on Youtube so that a bunch of internet punters can review it coldly and then use it as an example of how you're "not all that". It's a good thing folks here at TB are so supportive of their fellow players - folks who are just trying to get by in an increasingly difficult-to-make-it-in industry. Nice.

What am I BS'ing about, John McLaughlin's quote? He didn't say this?

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f28/hadrien-faraud-no-longer-maclaughlin-654957/

JM: I’ve known Etienne for about eight years now. I first saw him with Zawinul’s Syndicate in Nice, and we became friends at that moment. He’s a wonderful musician and human being. About two years ago we were beginning a European tour, and the day before the first gig Hadrien Feraud arrived with a broken hand. Only Dominique DiPiazza was capable of coming in on 24 hours notice, and he sweated!!! But he came through with flying colors.

Prior to this tour, I’d had words with Hadrien about his volume on stage, which was excessive. I’d actually had many words with him about his volume which unfortunately, he seemed unable to change.

Several months later we had a gig in Switzerland on the opening day of the Olympics in Beijing. The gig was a free concert for the Tibetan people with whom my wife and I are associated. Hadrien was healthy, and aware that this was a kind of “test” concert. Unfortunately the volume was way over the top, and shortly after I just had to let him go. Dominique has quite a career going for himself, and it was clear that I should find another bassist. I called Etienne and he was in. The rest is history, as they say.

Is this also BS:

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f28/hadrien-faraud-no-longer-maclaughlin-654957/

I was reading a drum forum and Gary Husband talks about the new John MacLaughlin album that's out. Hadrien in not on it and this is what Gary said after someone questioned him about their new bass player
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quote:
and our new bass player (Etienne M'Bappe) has really trasnsformed the bass situation. It's great now.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gary, I have to ask... transformed in what sense? Was it not great with Hadrien? The way you stated this made it sound like he couldn't do his part, and from what I have seen, and heard... you don't get much better...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for your question here. Just saw it Drumman74.

Well, it depends on what you're looking for I guess, and what particular elements constitute one guy as someone who couldn't be any better so to speak.

Hadrien's got facility up the ying yang. He's got a lot of awe inspiring, truly staggering technique .. and he applies it.. just about everywhere, in everything! He's up the top end whopping in jazz chordal substitutions, in I'm afraid (to me) that are frequently musically inappropriate and he's generally shedding his load at seemingly any opportunity.

Many (and I've seen this type of opinion reflected here occasionally) frequently put this down to age, and the fact he's extremely young. I'm afraid I don't buy this philosophy at all. I was absorbed in classical music at an incredibly young age, and when I wasn't I was pursuing musical effect for all it's worth in what I could find improvisationally. It was always just about music, and what I could strive for and reach as a musical effect. Ultimately! I wouldn't dream of comparing myself for one minute, but look at what Tony Williams was doing at 17? Enough said.

Etienne has the fundamental. He's playing bass, and his whole conception and contribution stems from what the bass is about in this kind of music. Not just groove. It's about what's musically important down in the bottom end of music. His whole interaction also stems from a complete understanding of what the bass is all about too. In addition to this, he is also 100% skilled in terms of working with drummers, which is something Hadrien has yet to even start understanding. Etienne embraces what goes on rhythmically and produces a total intuitive cohesion with whoever he's playing with. Whatever he does, he does for musical reasons and reacts in a total musical and sense all the time, with a lot of instinctive empathy.

That's where I'm at with all this. I'm talking about the same thing that made what Rick Laird so effective in Mahavishnu, and Jimmy Johnson so great with Allan Holdsworth... and it isn't just about playing low, simple and minimal, it's about what the player either understands or don't understand about what the bass has got to be about for this kind of music to work.

That's my stance.

Best,

GH

You're welcome, think about it, if Hadrien, your king that you're fighting this war for, had knew this, he wouldn't have gotten fired for playing too loudly and not listening(this is the music biz after all) to the person that hired him, he wouldn't have had a need to post a narrative that was so clearly debunked by John McLaughlin and wouldn't have had to delete all of his post in this thread in an attempt to cover that up. You and others wouldn't have to come here attacking other people because your idol made his self look bad. Upside is, the next super star and average gigging bassist can hopefully at least not make this same mistake.

My idol?!? Jauqo is my idol.

My "war" is more an attempt to stop people like you from turning Talkbass into TMZ.

You are googling information and posting it like you are an insider then playing the critic.

I just wanted to point out that you ain't heavy and you're not really in a position to call out Hadrien.

I suppose you can go call out brain surgeons next but I imagine your credibility there would be as it is here.

In this case one doesn't need to be an insider, HF, JM and GH's words are right there for everyone to read. If you know the information is incorrect then show us, enlighten us.

Cool.

Perhaps you misunderstand the crux of my argument.

Someone asks what Hadrien Feraud is up to.

Hadrien shows up.

You and Jauqo turned the thread into a critical analysis of Hadrien's competence.

I couldn't help but post how silly you lil guys sounded, like cute little kittens challenging a lion.

I'm now in a parking lot somewhere continuing to respond because apparently I have nothing better to do and apparently I have issues letting anybody go to sleep or enjoy a peaceful day unless they agree with me 100% and concede my point.

I'm working on that last point.

Well, it seems to me that there's a reading problem here. :D Your notion of what happened in the thread dosn't jive with what's documented in the thread despite posts by Hadrien being deleted.

Apology accepted.

and I honestly don't find subjecting average bass players on talkbass with high opinions of themselves to the same level of scrutiny they subject to far superior players troublesome.

No offense... what does that have to do with what you quoted from me?

Instead of being blinded by whatever, why not look at the subject objectively? On what planet does losing a sideman gig because you refuse to control your volume make sense? Unlike you, I don't see this as a matter of TBers having an inflated opinion of themselves. It's about an incredibly easily avoided situation unless someone would like to show me otherwise. And as I said, it's about some folks who apparently don't have a clue about what it takes to work in the industry since they refuse to believe what has been stated by the hiring artist. It's not even a gigging thing, it's part of being an asset as an employee.

If lashing out at the people who noticed that is your way of dealing with it, cool. I think I understand. I can point you to a clip of me playing on Youtube if you need it.

I don't understand how you could've followed this thread and come up with this "understanding. Seriously.

Or maybe I misread it. Did he show up before or after people other than Jauqo and Phil mentioned he had been fired and why? Did you get upset with the first group for stating that?

For those who felt I offended you or those who felt that I offended their god I offer no apology. You being offended by truth is an issue within you. Truth really is only truth, no matter how you try to cover it up. Hadrien knew it was time up, that's why he deleted his posts from this thread. But Phil caught it before it was erased and the lie is still there for all who want the truth.

For what ever reason some of you chose to take offense to me saying that Hadrien got fired from the John McLaughlin gig and you took to doing what some people do when they are hurt, the lynch mob went out. Take the time and put the reality hat on and maybe learn something from it. Mainly like how to not get fired from a gig.

For those who obviously do not know how to comprehend what I wrote. I said that Hadrien got fired, and he did. It was not a rumor as he attempted to say it was and there was no problem with his hand as being part of the reason he was no longer playing with John McLaughlin (JM dispelled that lie, just read the link below) He was fired because he chose to not do what his boss at the time (John McLaughlin) continuously asked him not to do. I would have fired him too.

If you guys want to be mad at me, that's kool or if you want Hadrien to get that gig back, talk to the man who fired him. John McLaughlin.

John McLaughlin put it out there for all the world to see.

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f28/hadrien-faraud-no-longer-maclaughlin-654957/

And for those who want to read what Gary Husband had to say should take note. As a bass player it's about respecting the groove and the other players in the band.

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f28/hadrien-faraud-no-longer-maclaughlin-654957/

At the end of the day all Hadrien had to do was just chalk it up and take note as to why he lost a great gig. I'm not his enemy.

And with all due respect to Hadrien I have no issues with him Just next time he should have his story together before he accuses some one of not telling the truth.

If we can't talk and be civilized here at TB then why talk at all?

Yes. That.

Should I google "Brad Johnson John McLaughlin" or "Brad Johnson Jean-Luc Ponty"?

Here's Jauqo, obviously sharing his objective views of Hadrien Feraud prior to Hadrien ever showing up...

Any of us can do that gig.

...That's usually how it works when word gets out that at the end of the day you're a jerk. No matter how talented you are. Especially when you're attempting to take over the role of the person who fired you.

Believe me it was more than just that.

I don't know if you really took the time to pay attention to what Hadrien plays, but he borrows extremely heavy from Alphonso Johnson and Matt Garrison.

Harmonically, stylistically and technically.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic but what ferocious stuff is Hadrien doing? and what has he done since he was booted from the JM gig?

Kwesi help me understand. Can you break it down to me? Maybe he's over my head.

Hardien holds the title for the one who got fired.

After Hadrien showed up Jauqo really showed him who was the boss of Talkbass with the following:

Hadrien, believe me there is nothing I need to know or want to know about you.

Nothing at all.

If you have any other issues with me let me know. Private, open forum or in person.

Now I know gigs with Jean Luc-Ponty are a dime a dozen and the fact that Hadrien was on that gig two weeks ago and Jauqo was on that gig, um never, shouldn't say much to anybody on Talkbass. But in Reality, of which you seem to fancy yourself grounded therein, it seems pretty obvious who should be taking advice from who around here.

Yes. That.

Should I google "Brad Johnson John McLaughlin" or "Brad Johnson Jean-Luc Ponty"?

Sure, look up both... that should keep you occupied.

If those are his opinions, the problem is...? You've repeatedly trotted yours out and that's obviously okay in your mind, why does it bother when everyone isn't at the same trough as you?

You clearly think there's some pecking order... so, by your logic, what are you doing that exceeds what Jauqo has done, that gives you the right to be critical of him? Got a clip?

This place just keeps on delivering.
