What happened to Hadrien Feraud?!

No not saying it didnt happen, but it could have happened somewhat differently. Then again it could had happened exactly. All and all why concentrate on why he isnt with John McLaughlin.

As I have indicated before I didn't bring up that he got fired or why he got fired. I did however, juxtapose the two narratives of what happened and I think you and others find it uncomfortable and want to defend your "idol" by trying to downplay the information, calling it's accuracy into question, etc. This information is old, but the reaction by some of the same players is the same.

The moral of the story when you are not the leader of the band.

Do what you are asked to do not what your ego tricks you into doing.

I don't know if you really took the time to pay attention to what Hadrien plays, but he borrows extremely heavy from Alphonso Johnson and Matt Garrison.

Harmonically, stylistically and technically.

So what would your idea contexts for Hadrien be?

Hi Jauqo, what tunes/solos/compositions of Hadrien's have you analyzed and where could you demonstrate that they "borrow extremely heavy" from Alphonso Johnson and Matt Garrison?

Here's Lucas Pickford, I really like Lucas because he puts a lot of work into transcribing pieces and analyzing them prior to giving his opinion: Pick's opinion of Hadrien

Can we look forward to you transcribing one of Hadrien's pieces and comparing them to one of Garrison's or Johnson's to show us what you are talking about?

Miles Davis fired Red Garland. Lionel Hampton fired Clifford Brown. Charlie Parker got fired by everybody.

Seems to me that you are bringing this up in an effort to denigrate Hadrien Feraud's talent but I fail to see how it is relevant/interesting/newsworthy?

Jauqo and Phil, when John McLaughlin called you guys to replace Hadrien Feraud, what were your reasons for having to turn that gig down?

Well if you're challenging the if statement is valid or not, it's on you to do the transcribing or at least do the listening. :D

Lots of people get fired, but that's not really the point AND I'm not the person that brought this up, try reading the thread before engaging in ad hominem attacks. If reading what John McLaughlin said is making you cry, you should take it up with him instead of attacking other people.

Definitely some weird chips on some shoulders in this thread. At least a couple people not being fully forthcoming about the nature of their indignation, and hiding behind the rhetoric of objectivity. It may not seem obvious to you, guys, but it's obvious to anyone reading the thread.

I know very little about Feraud - haven't listened to him - and have listened just here and there to McLaughlin, so I don't really care much one way or the other about what seems to be a personality issue between two musicians who aren't any of us. If there's reason for post after post of such negative implications, even to the point of disparagement of character, then such people should either own up to what their real beef is, or let it go. Read this thread hoping to learn something, but felt like I was listening to a few junior high school girls being catty.

With so much talent that Hadrian has it just seems hard for me to imagine that we should concentrate on why he isn't playing with McLaughlin. Its starting to sound like a broken record. .....or CD. I like his versatility. Got a nice funk feel as well as Jazz. Seems very opened to a lot of different styles of music. I think his popularity with different players have grown. What i mean you see him playing comfortably with different styles of music.

I read the same thread and came away with a different opinion of what transpired.

After reading the whole thread, it did kinda feel like that.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic but what ferocious stuff is Hadrien doing? and what has he done since he was booted from the JM gig?

Any of us can do that gig.

Don't know why I read through this entire thread again...but I am so amused by these comments.

No Jauqo, anybody can do this gig and we'd know Hadrien hit rock bottom if he ever showed up in a video resembling anything like that.

blah, blah, blah...I'm not the person that brought this up, try reading the thread before engaging in ad hominem attacks. If reading what John McLaughlin said is making you cry, you should take it up with him instead of attacking other people.

Yawn.

I have the same amount of John McLaughlin albums as I do Phil Smith and Jauqo-IIIX albums, exactly zero. I can tell you though, if Hadrien Feraud were to play on any of them, I'd buy them in a heartbeat

It is getting irksome to continually see truly great players (Jeff Berlin, Steve Bailey, Andrew Gouche, Hadrien Feraud) show up on Talkbass and waste their time with Napoleon Dynamite's uncles who inevitably show up and always feel the need to spout their tired "wisdom" or "insider information" from the rooftops and ruin the atmosphere for everybody else.

This thread was about what Hadrien's been up to. The haters can go back to all the threads about their upcoming albums and high profile gigs

Hadrien doing what he does best

The JM gig was part of what Hadrien's been up to. Neither one of the guys you're complaining about brought it up. And there's been a few deleted posts in this thread so going back and reading it now isn't the same as watching it transpire.

Just saying.

I do disagree with Jauqo about any of us being able to do the gig he mentioned... for what I'd hope would be obvious reasons.

I honestly don't find them talking about what happened to be as troublesome as the folks that think that there's a level you can reach where you're above the constraints of basic gig etiquette. That is simply naive. When someone hires you and for whatever reason you can't/won't/don't comply with what they are paying you for... duh.

That's dealing with an ideal vs. reality and reality check... it can get just about any of us in trouble gigwise. That it even happened on this level is only mildly surprising. Some folks are still surprised that people could have had an issue with Jaco towards the end of his career because hey, he's Jaco... how could you not want to work with that? Again, naive.

So I think there's a valuable lesson that can be learned from this.

Or not of course. To some of you guys these folks are gods, to others they're fellow musicians, albeit it excellent ones and most of us understand the rules of the game. I've had friends who lost high profile gigs over some seriously goofy stuff. Stuff you'd think no one in their right mind would do. I'd love to hear the reason for the volume issues on this gig but I doubt that'll happen since the issue of why he and JM parted now seems to be on the table and runs counter to the other deleted explanantion.

mstott25, why are you attacking people?

How about engaging in some real dialogue?

Why would Hadrien just lie about a thing in an attempt to attack JAUQO III-X when the truth from the source is readily available right here on this message board?

My guess is the standard "bass gods get a free pass thing" here and anyone who doesn't comply is the enemy. Unfortunately in the real world they don't get a free pass and the only enemy is getting in the way of your own ability to work.

If a bass god is less than truthful or lashes out, hey, they're allowed. It's just the way some folks look at things.
:hmm:

Just went to the youtube link he put up, jeanbat is hilarious. One of those classic anonymous youtube commenters. Not sure if that's what he/she was going for. The lashing out is beyond funny.

Lesson... don't say nuttin' about his/her heroes... or feel the heat.

This stuff is far more important than I thought.
:D

LOL :D, yeah jeanbat is on a mission, he's been writing poison pen comments on Jauqo's videos for looks like a week now. So sad.

I'm not attacking anyone. I'm just shining the gigantic spotlight that Jauqo began pointing at Hadrien right back at him. What's the problem, is Jauqo one of your bass gods?

I honestly don't find them talking about what happened to be as troublesome as the folks that think that there's a level you can reach where you're above the constraints of basic gig etiquette.

and I honestly don't find subjecting average bass players on talkbass with high opinions of themselves to the same level of scrutiny they subject to far superior players troublesome.

Personally, I'm not sure if the Ken Smith he's playing is the "right" sound for what she's "trying" to do. You say that you can't think of anyone you'd rather hear in his place, I say there's a lot that I'm not hearing that I believe would make that track jump from all parties involved.

Which is why he needs to play as loudly as possible so that people can hear that he's the best player in the world...

What I find interesting about this clip is how deep a pocket the keyboard player and the drummer create...now throw a cat like Will Howard or other groove monstrosities in there on bass and that would be truly sick.

and there's your highly regarded opinion about Hadrien Feraud. You seem to have all the answers, as soon as the right producer stumbles upon you I'm sure it will be the best day of his life. When Phil Smith's bass playing is unleashed on the world, it's going to take us all by storm.

Now back to this guy...doesn't he just kill it Phil?

So why has your light missed the people that originally brought up the point about him being fired? Do you just shine your light on Black posters?

Even average players that gig know that when the person that hires you to do something you do it or you don't take the job.

What happened? Did I steal your lunch money as a kid?
