I play a Fender Deluxe P Bass Special, MIM 2003 before they made them with active pickups. I completely took the J pickup out and replaced the original P pickup with a DiMarzio Willpower P.
I love the bass now, too bad theres an empty cut out of a J pickup near the bridge. I can't stand the Jazz neck and how thin the nut width is. Anybody want a nice thin maple fretboard jazz neck that would trade me a huge hunk of baseball bat P neck? lol.

Wow!! I did not expect this much response. Safe to say there's a lot of love out there for Precisions.
Well, I bought one today......but I might take it back. Bought a MIJ P bass. It has the 70's J neck on it with the black binding and the black, block inlays. It plays great but the D string all up and down the neck is much weaker than the other strings. (I even changed the strings thinking that might help). I haven't totally given up on it yet, as I'm still exsperimenting with the pickup heights. Got a ground issue also that I didn't notice in the store. (It was pretty noisey in there today!).
Hope I can get it to work out because the weight and feel is perfect. Very comfortable to play.
Fender Roger Waters - MIM, black & maple, SPB-3, chunky neck, brass nut, I have changed the bridge for an Fender American Vintage Chrome rather then the original black one... straight forward bass just like a P should be, no time for sparkles just pure raw rock and roll!
