What other brands should Fender make?

Well, they did subcontract the FG plant to manufacture their Heartfield series and that's a fairly radical departure from the norm. Not sure who they were emulating but the resulting product was unlike any Fender instrument (...or variation) that I've seen. Mine sports a "DR Heartfield" logo and I understand this was, at some point, amended to include "...by Fender". Makes me wonder if Fender was attempting to distance themselves (in name, at least) from the new product to enhance sales.

Can't we just let the brands that do what they do best?

Let Fodera make works or art, let Ibanez make affordable modern basses with quality outsources parts and let Fender keep making Ps and Js and let Warwick and Spector play Chicken or the Egg.

I myself prefer a bass with a smaller body, slimmer neck, and 24 frets. Fender doesn't make a bass like this but Ibanez and some other manufacturers do but they are not Fender.

It didn't have 24 frets, but Fender's MB-4/MB-5 was a pretty close copy of what's become the classic Ibanez platform. They're kinda hard to find now, since Fender only made them for a couple of years in the mid 90s.

I love the Aerodynes and the Lytes. Fender should do the Ex-Factor design again. The Performer was cool looking too.

I'd really like to see the Jerkweasle.

Let anyone who wishes to make basses make them--let the quality ones succeed (At a variety of price levels) & the lousy ones go out of business.
That's what I would prefer to see.

Sorry if it has been posted earlier but I only read thread titles. Who is taking pre orders for the 24 fan fret Fender Weasle? I want to be taken extra seriously. A Google search for "Fender Weasle" only brings up this thread and the "what's the hype" thead.

Let's face it, we all need to have a Fender if we ever aspire to be a real serious bass player who is not a total jerkweasle. I myself prefer a bass with a smaller body, slimmer neck, and 24 frets. Fender doesn't make a bass like this but Ibanez and some other manufacturers do but they are not Fender. I don't particularly like to be wrong and if I don't have a Fender than I am wrong. If I am to be right I will get a Fender but then I won't have what I want. I think the simplest solution for all parties involved would be for Fender to just start making other brands so that people who don't want a Fender can still get a Fender but it will be a Fender that they actually want. IMHO They could(and should) start making Fender Soundgear basses for those that want them. A Soundgear with Fender on the headstock = TOTALLY AWESOME to the MAX! They could have tort control cavity covers and truss rod covers to pay homage to the more traditional Fenders. I think they would be a big hit. It wouldn't be long before people would start saying "Boy, Leo really got it right the first time with these Fender Soundgear basses!"
I think they really need to do this because I know that I for one am tired of playing basses that I like but being a loser for not playing the basses(Fender) that I am supposed to be playing.
What brands do you think Fender ought to make?

I would love to finally see a proper Fenbson Precibird.
