What other brands should Fender make?

Of course I'd rather be involved in servicing and supporting Fender products instead of Apple's like I sometimes do.

So, Q.E.D. Steve Jobs was Leo Fenders illegitimate love child.

Because to be honest, substitute Fender for Apple and the comment is still pretty relevant...it only falls down when you realize that Apple doesn't have a Squier, you know a line of products that just do what they are supposed to, no frills, no Flash (you see what I did there...) and none of the unwanted features that everyone supposedly wanted...

I'm already a Squier Fanboi, I could totally be on board with an alternative line by Apple that espoused the Squier approach, just a decent product at a decent price without "that killer feature" or "this total game changer", which neither is anyways...

I think the key difference is that Steve got a lot more credit for things Apple developed than he deserved. And he also got a free ride from the tech press who seemed willing to ignore all his excesses and abuses because he was their designated enfant terrible and industry "bad boy."

Leo never got anywhere near that. And his contributions were traceable and provable. And the Cult of Leo came about after his death. Something Leo never had anything to do with, as opposed to the Church of Jobs, which Steve consciously worked on (and with) throughout his tenure with Apple. Read some of Apple marketing man Guy Kawasaki's accounts about how that worked.

If Leo is a demigod, it came about through broad consent. Steve Jobs is a study in choreographed image creation and building. Jobs created his own image.

Not to say he wasn't good. Or good for Apple. But he wasn't that good. And nowhere near the "genius" and "visionary " the serious Jobs lovers think he is. He mostly just had more true believers blowing him kisses; and a public strewing rose petals along his path (and during his lifetime) than most tyrants normally do.

Just goes to show, it pays to blow your own horn. Repeatedly. Until it's accepted as true.
