What Washburn Bass Do You Own (Database)?

Oh that is an easy one. Heisenbass is correct. It is indeed a B-40 (from the Wing Series). No problem without having a serial number. It happens but I can tell you your bass is 1982. Why? Because all the B-40's that have the 1981 SB-40 nameplate truss rod cover appear only on 1982 basses (although most have a serial number). It is an uncommon (have 8 in my files with the SB40 name) but not a truly rare factory error. And B-40's do not have named truss rod covers actually. You will find lots of head-scratchers and interesting errors or anomalies among our beloved Washburns---kind of fun.

Sure looks very, very nice and you are lucky to have a fretless in that model. I have found four so far and yours makes 5.What strings are on it?

Wing Series B-40 basses were made for 4 years: 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983 and were the first Washburn elec bass to have the standard "Fender" body style.

BTW, 1980 B-40's happen to be the rarest of them all. I have 69 different fretted B-40's on file and only ONE 1980 so far! Over 2/3 of them are 1981's!! And this is over a search of many years.

Great basses!

Hey, would you like to join the Washburn Club? I can get you your official number!

Oh...can you tell us how much the B40 fretless cost? I'd think in its condition and being fretless, it would have been up there a bit. But Soooooo worth it.

Thanks for the detail! I've not been a huge fan of the more modern Washburn products I've tried, but can tell this bass is something special. Will be keeping an eye out for others. And, yes, please add me to the club.

As for the strings, I put on a new set of Rotosound RS77LD just after buying it. Not a lot of experience with flatwound so I went with the recommendation of my local guitar shop guy.

I'm reluctant to tell you what I paid for it, heh. Bought it from a good friend for very little. I don't think he'd played it in 20 years and just had it sitting in a closet. I will say that he'd had it on display at a yard sale with a $200 price tag earlier this month. It was filthy and only had two strings, no one even looked at it. I told him if it didn't sell, I'd make an offer. Wanted it for my 13-yo son who is transitioning from upright to electric and says, "frets just get in my way."

NOTE:
1. Some of you own some fine Washburn Guitars. This list will, however, focus on basses.
2. If you know the model series but not the actual model number, please list it anyway and we'll get to the actual name for you.. I will list them in a similar manner. You might consider posting pics to see if we can identify the exact model. Lots of experts here.

Heya reaganama....You are officially member # 148! You can see it here on our main Club thread (altho this one--our database list thread-- gets traffic also) on post 6504 : The Official Washburn Club (Part 3)

And I have put up your bass in the database list right above this.

Be sure to hit both threads often and lots of questions can also be answered for you if you "Search" within these 2 threads. Let us know how things are with your basses and playing and how those strings work out. Always love reviews of members' basses. Glad to have you with us. And good luck for your son---wonderful to know electric AND double bass---Wow!

PS--that bass was a steal and cleaned up beautifully!
PPS--Agree with you on the modern models over the years...most are OK but a bit ho-hum despite being good players in a general sense. The vintage ones really have some class to them IMO...just gotta be picky about the ones you want.

Hey everyone, great info on this forum! Here's a pic of my Lyon by Washburn. The best I can tell, it's a WB-20 (s/n 2120628), circa early-90's. I only see this particular model listed for 1994 on the Washburn history page, but it seems like I bought it (new) earlier than that? Maybe one of you can ID it properly?

It started life black w/white pickguard, and stock uncovered J p/u's. The flame paint job was applied many years ago by a friend of mine, the black pg and the EMG Select p/u's I installed a few weeks ago during a complete tear down/rebuild, and I cleaned up the neck and dressed the frets. I still have all original parts FWIW.

My stepson used it for several years in his first band (flames, and all) when he "volunteered" to be the bassist (!), until he bought a new Ibanez SDGR (whatever...).

Nice bass there. It appears to be a scarce LB-20. The serial numbers tells us 1992. FYI: The LB-10 had a single split P pickup and the LB-40 had the P/J pickups.

Thanks, MEKer, I was hoping you would have better info on it. And, I thought '94 sounded a little late, but that was the only listing I could find. Unfortunately, the gig bag I had with all of the original hang tags was left at a rehearsal space years ago.

If you'd like, you can add it to the list, and if owning a Lyon qualifies, I'd dig it if I could get a number!

will do! hang on a minute and I'll get you in!

EDIT:
1. Here you go...official Washburn Club member number 149 which you can see at our main Club thread right here, post 6504: The Official Washburn Club (Part 3)
2. Also have your bass up on the data list just above us in post 462. Have not had a new bass model to add for a long time, your 1992 LB-20 now gives us 109 different Washburn bass models among us all. Wow!!!
3. I'll repeat what I said to reaganama recently when he joined... "Be sure to hit both threads often and lots of questions can also be answered for you if you "Search" within these 2 threads."
We have soooo much neat info throughout our Club members and our 2 threads, I hope you get a lot of enjoyment cruising around all the Washburn info.
Welcome. :-)

Excellent! Pretty cool, adding a new one to the list.

Thanks again!

I do. I added a more full finger bridge / ramp to fill the gap between the P and J, as well as a set of Chromes. It's also Eb tuned, to help with some songs in my bands set list. I'm loving it. :)
Would you like a club number here? What's the SN of the bass as that will give us a year of manufacture?

This is my Washburn Lyon P bass copy. Not sure of the model , serial is 442005. The body is solid mahogany and its seems to be very well made. Neck is great and either had a fret job or came this way from the factory. If anyone knows the model let me know. It is stock except for the bridge cover. and just had a fresh set of GHS flatwounds put on it. Its the best player I own.

You have a 1994 LB-10. Sure thing, GHS flats oughta work real well with it.
Like the post above I just posted..later today I'll drop back in and get you a member number.
Welcome.

110 different models so far

NOTE:
