Well, being a doublebass (aka upright etc.) puts you in a different price category altogether. My bass and bow together are worth about $11k and my electric bass and rig I'm into for about $4k. It's a lot of money, but you need the tools to do the job. If I had planned to go audition for symphonies I would have probably have wanted to get a better instrument as well.

I have special musical instrument insurance for all the stuff I take around with me and this is insured for £5,000.

I'm not going to convert this into dollars as it would probably be wrong by the end of the day - the $ has been dropping like a stone this week against European currencies - it may even be worth less than a Euro by the end of the week!

All your basses in the US are steadily devaluing!! ;)

It's "inflating" all the time as the £ is worth more relative to the $ day by day!! ;)

Here's the latest from XE.com :

Live mid-market rates as of 2002.07.16 09:14:34 GMT.
1.00 GBP United Kingdom Pounds = 1.57645 USD United States Dollars

1 GBP = 1.57645 USD

1 USD = 0.634336 GBP

Wonder what it'll be tomorrow!?

Cheers - my colection is worth more than I thought!

I'm well into the $10000 bracket - for now;)

That was actually a late night rehearsal for a NASCAR gig I did this past year with the Air Force's Tops in Blue. We did the Daytona 500, and the races in Nov '01 @ Atlanta and Homestead (FL). They were O.K....

Never done an Auto parts store but I've had some other weird gigs.....
