Which do I keep?

Why not just keep both if you enjoy playing them? If you absolutely have to get rid of one, I'd keep the Carvin if you like the neck better.

Or is this just a ploy to make space for (and fund?) the Squier fretless you desire?

I have decided to change the relief on my Pedulla neck to see if that will get me what I want instead of buying the Squier.

Electronics can be swapped all day, but neck profile? Might as well be a constant because once altered you'll never be able to revert it. Best neck wins, followed closely by body ergonomics and string spacing (which i believe are both 18-19mm)

I'm with the neck crowd. When I find a neck that feels good in my hand, I can work with pretty much any other aspect of the bass.

And that's okay. If you really like the sire preamp, you could swap it in the carvin. Better yet, grab an Audere with part of the funds from the Sire and drop that in. They're silly easy to install and dare I say an absolute steal price wise.

I bought the Carvin used so I could break even most likely if I sold it. The Sire came through a trade. I guess it would be worth $500, not counting shipping, or a net $400 if shipping is included in the $500.

The adjustable mids of the Sire are made moot by the fact that you know you could've tweaked them at the amp. That seems to be the only advantage it had, which ended up not being one. That was easy.

I watched a concert vid on YouTube of Ben Harpers band, the bass player was playing a Carvin jazz and it sounded monstrous. Based on that, keep the Carvin.

I have never played, touched or heard a Carvin. However, based on the experiences of three of my friends who bought Carvins and got rid of them pretty quickly, I'm not excited or impressed by them. I have written this before and have received hate responses from people who like Carvin - - but I've made it for a long time without one and I will make it without them for as long as I'm around.

So - - I voted for keeping the Sire.
