Which monster cable

I bought a monster bass cable back in the 90's..... years later, no receipt any more, and it failed. Guitar Center swapped it with a new one no questions asked. I bought ONCE and swapped it out for free a small handful of times over about 20 years.

I will never have to pay for a cable again in my lifetime. How in the world is that a ripoff???

Because many other cables ( including Mogami and that new US Planet Waves cable) are just as good, with just as hassle free warranties and they are cheaper.

I bought me a G50 so now I have a few extra Mogamis. All my patch cables are Mogami. Never had one fail. Maybe I don't like trekking up to GC because my cable failed? Maybe it's just me.

We can debate cables for the next four hundred posts people hear Monster anything and instantly have an opinion I like Monster cables because I like the build quality and I would buy them without the lifetime warranty if you don't agree I totally understand.

i once accidentally used a monster bass cable on a guitar; it sounded so dull i thought the amp was broken.

lots of better and cheaper cables also have lifetime "walk in, walk out" replacement warranties. (spectraflex springs to mind.)

Yes but GC doesn't carry that brand at least the one closest to me doesn't you should use the best cable for you I personally don't think there is a huge difference between the cheapest and most expensive cables.

For me when I bought my Monster cable 10+ years ago, locally that was the only high end choice. I didn't know about Talkbass, didn't have ready access to a PC to order online, and didn't have a credit card to order over the phone. Also, the market overall wasn't what it is now, with everybody and their brother manufacturing cables.
Prior to that I had gone through dozens of cables and wanted to treat myself to a "nice" one, so the only real choice was Monster. I don't regret it a bit, and have no desire to buy another cable. I just did my first warranty replacement and it made me happy with my choice all over again.
Too many players look at cables as a consumable item...something that just HAS to be replaced regularly...

I have a monster 20 footer that I have used for about 10/12 years. I have played over 1500, 4 hour gigs with gigs with it as well as carrying it in my case as my practice cable without fail.

In that time I have twice replaced it, NOT because it failed but because the out skin got cut and didn't want to take a chance.

They are well worth the money. IMO any of the "warranted" cables are GOOD. The biggest decision for me is WHERE can I get a replacement and how "easy" is it. I have a GC close, and at the time I bought it Monster was the ONLY HQ cable with a warranty. It is SO easy that when you walk into the store they don't ask you ANY questions.

When the answer is "neither," it's helpful to suggest an alternative. I'm with KCaruso on this. Learn to make your own. I use Mogami instrument cable with Neutrik plugs. I've never had one of mine go bad. Even paying retail for the components, my cables cost about half of what you pay for a Monster.

I do have a couple Monster cables, but I bought them out of the $10 bin at a GC blowout sale. What's ironic is that, if the cables were defective when I bought them, I could have walked over to the accessories counter and swapped them out for brand new ones. But they weren't, so I didn't.

No need to take offense. The OP's question suggested that perhaps he or she wasn't aware of possibly better alternatives. There's nothing wrong with enlightening a fellow bass player and helping them beware of the "better sound through marketing" traps.
