me and my big cousen modded it over the years (he thought the origional fire engine red was too glam so he painted it to this kinda punk green and yellow)

i hate glam rock and i hope it doesnt ever come back (but it kinda is)
but some good came out of the 80s too

hardcore punk, post punk, alternative was getting its footing

plus there is one thing that made the 80's fantastic

all this pointy guitar talk....well remember that most the 80's pointy shaped guitars may or may not have "disappeared" but there were tons 80's instruments that had no points whatsoever, and were regarded as some of the finest units made to date.

My favorite fender of all time came out in the 80's... And damn are they classy!

There was a lot of cool stuff outside the very mainstream: Talking Heads, The Police, U2, English Beat, Television, Gang of Four, Replacements, XTC, Minutemen, Husker Du, Ramones, The Clash, REM to name a few. It wasn't _ALL_ Petshop Boys and Human League.

People always judge the 80's by the crap that was being thrust on the public rather than what was really cool that was going on at the time. It was such a relief for me after the crap from the 70's, and I _DO_ mean the Eagles. Gaak! That there was a movement of Do It Yourself recording and that the Coke addled A&R men no longer had an iron fist over the whole thing was _SUCH_ a breath of fresh air.

I graduated high school in 1989. I hated the popular music of the eighties, and still do. There was some good stuff, but for the most part, the music was aweful. As for the instruments, I have a headless Spirit, I still dig it and wouldn't mind playing a USA Steinberger someday.

This is absolutely true. Unfortunately, a lot of those bands didn't get widely recognized until later. The radio was dominated by Euro-synth and hair metal, ugh.

The people I was hanging out with recognized it in real time. It's what always gives me hope that there is always quality music being created in "the now". As you get older it gets harder to find. It's not just Crotchety Old Man Syndrome. I'm not hanging out in college dorms anymore. The radio generally isn't playing it. It's hard to find good music as you get older and it's not that I want it to stay just as it was (but I do like a melody and some sort of harmony).

Thank God, as near as I can tell, turn table scratches and faux radio voice verses are no longer considered cool! That crap lasted nearly 20 years.

There's less than 350 made, and I sold mine! Stupid, Stupid, STUPID!
A truly fantastic guitar, has incredible tones and playability.

Of course, it's not for your average 90's 00's or 10's function or wedding gig. I wouldn't play jazz on it either, not even fusion (check out F. Gambale btw) but with my ADA and Rocktron stuff, it killed. Why oh why did I sell it?!!

No, wait, that's only got 6 strings, haha! I had one of the 340 or so UV777GR beasts. It was the original Ibanez 7-string guitar, and had a much better neck than what they produce nowadays. Here's a pic of 'Beastie.'

People still listen to the radio? I gave up on that crap years ago. I think right now, with many self publishing, broadcasting on the net, and newer web based stations like Pandora, it is easier than ever to find new quality music.

I think the 80's revival is already here. Last year I bought a B.C. Rich Ironbird bass, bolt on neck and a single P pickup for $149.00 I put it right up on ebay and got close to $800.00 for it.

it may have fallen off in the south, but it's still alive and around where I teach
