Winter Build Off 2023 - Supersymmetry

This could be a fun experiment, I have no idea if it would work. The luminescent pigment/resin needs a bit of volume and inlay depth for a good afterglow effect. I routed the fretboard inlay to 3-4mm depth, so that it's still at least 2mm near the edges after radiusing.

The effect could be visible in woods with large pores and coarse grain, such as wenge or ash. I'm planning a birch and maple body, I don't think that a lot of pigment would remain after sanding.

That being said, I am currently looking for other ways to incorporate more of this pigment/resin into the build, besides side dots. Perhaps a luminescent headstock logo?

Yeah, it would have to be an open grain wood like ash, or you'd have to make some kind of recesses for it (like @Mickey666 suggests). Faux binding might be a possibility...

How about putting mathematical symbols, perhaps an equation, inlay into the body somewhere.
Not a bad idea. I considered some mathematical term that equates to 12 as the 12th fret inlay, but it would have been too small to read from a distance.

For the body I'll have to see if I can find an equation that fits well. Please don't suggest E=mc^2.

Faux binding might be a possibility...
I'm already planning faux binding for this build, natural maple on the sides with the top stained black.

The problem with the luminescent pigment is that it has a slight yellowish hue in normal daylight. It's fine for smaller parts and inlays, but in larger areas it's not all that appealing. In the dark, though..:smug:
 
I was actually thinking more along the lines of the equation for low frequency vibrations.

I'm not a math guy, so I won't attempt to figure out what that is, but I know enough basic physics to know that there is one.

Well, there's the three dimensional acoustic wave equation:

but as an inlay shape it is rather unpleasant to rout.
