I have a JDI so I could try it next week. What I found when I wen to the OCSD is that my bad signal was way hotter than the JDI. Had to gain down.

Doh! Thanks, now it makes sense. Yes, a JDI is passive, and does not alter gain - while the OCS is a preamp / tone shaper, that can and does.
Isn't it unity gain at around 10 o'clock? Because it goes -6dB to +12dB

All the filters boost and cut also, so those are additional factors. There are a ton of capabilities in the OSC that I haven't fully explored yet. (can't wait! - rehearsal tomorrow
)The JDI aid fine, just sends a great but little "weaker" signal. The OCSD has a lot of things that interact.
Bingo! I'm more interested in any quality differences detected with the bass channel signal (noise floor, etc vs strength) a/b'd...checked at three areas: headphones at the board, FOH clarity, and IEM monitor channel.
Having more gain sent to the board "could" be a good scenario, but...
Unfortunately, I don't have a JDI box, and our church DI boxes are THE cheapest/worst available! To date, I've slways used my Jule Monique preamp between my pedalboard and FOH [which has a top quality (Jensen-type) transformer DI built-in...]
A/b'ing with my Monique (or Noble) would bring other variances into the equation...

Bottom line...I'm hoping the DI quality IS comparable to using a JDI box! Only schlepping a pedalboard is the goal...

Our church has been using an Aguilar Tone Hammer Pre/DI but I've been bringing my Markbass Super Booster and like it for it's clean tone and ability to give it the old school vibe using the VLE. I run passive basses therefore use active DIs. I've heard good things about the Radial Stagebug SB-1 for passive basses. Have been considering the OCSD.

So after years of not playing at church (or any other live setting) this weekend I jumped back into it. Previous church was small (~60) and current has capacity for about 400. One Saturday night service,2x Sunday morning. Had a great leader and drummer so was super easy to roll with.
My simple setup below: MIM Geddy Lee to Korg Pitchblack Custom tuner to Vt Bass v1 to church's Radial JDI.
Next up is a compressor methinks.

Nice. Always liked the Geddy Lee jazz. I'd play a while before adding a compressor. I know a lot of bass players use them. I did. I took it off my latest board - and everything g else except a tuner and my OCSD pedal.
There are compressors and then there is tone magic in a yellow box called the Diamond. Notice I didn't call it a compressor.
With all of the positive comments on the OnmiCabSim I am going to have to keep it in mind. We are moving this summer and will be looking for a church. IF I get to play, that sounds like a great solution for no amps/cabs on stage. Right now I have a "decent" rig on the stage - Genz Benz Streamliner 900 into an Accugroove El Whappo! IMHO, the BEST rig I have heard!
