I just realized you have zero EQ or filtering dialed in on your Studio One...

I did use the lpf—no hpf today, as I brought my P4 and already have the tower eq set to cut the bottom end sub slightly, for my practice room. The S1 to me is about the red knob dime’d, with significant use of the lpf (hpf depends on situation) just not shown that way in the pic.

[Edit/add:] Another nice LA-1A feature...I can jack up plenty of clean/quiet signal >S1...the red knob dime’d has a completely quiet noise floor...just adding the Neve magic.

My home WiFi signal became marginal this week (freezing students), so drove to my classroom and held my DL class...from my classroom. While there, I brought along one bass, one EV50 PA tower, and my small pedalboard....

Point (finally) being...the tube comp sounded soooo fantastic today—embrace your’s! If anything, get an RNDI (or use your ProDI) so you can use the LA-1A boost...and you’re good! Ya seriously got a great sounding setup now!

I’m heading to my drummers garage tomorrow to try and lay down some tracks with his new gear. We’ll stay apart. I’ll use my LA-1A as my DI.

I did some home recording tonight. It sounded good. I wondered if a REDDI or RNDI or something would make it even better? Idk.

...very natural sounding—4 types of reverb and 4 preset-save locations. Plus, it has fantastic modulation (edit/add: chorus), too...a “two for one” pedal, so to speak. Not a lot of controls to tweak...I sure don’t miss any.

Obviously, it doesn’t compete with the variety of reverbs available in the Big Sky. I had both pedals at the same time, and found I kept preferring the operation simplicity, and quality of the verbs GR does have...(ymmv)

You know I’ll spare no expense...this is the best I’ve found to date. 2.6” width, top jacks! (No affiliation...just a satisfied customer)

I really don't EQ that much - on my bass or my amp - so I don't think I need a preamp. I'm starting to think that I will leave my board as is as I really like it and I think it sounds awesome.

I can use the compressor as a DI (it has a balanced 600 ohm output) if I want and it has been working just fine.
I MAY add a tube DI, but it probably won't be on the board. It would probably be a separate thing, like a REDDI or Avalon U5 or something that isn't really "board friendly" that I can take for DI/IEM/FOH supported gigs or I can just use the board without the DI for gigs where I use my amp.

No hurry, the LA-1A seems to be doing OK.

Anyone tried the Line 6 HX Stomp? I think I mentioned it before but don't remember. People seem to really like it for bass. Even though 2 posts earlier I said I'm fine.

Tuner, Rolls, HX Stomp and a DI. All on a Nano+.
Covers anything. Nice compressor and HP/LP filters built in.
Everything there for the once song that needs an envelope filter, or chorus, or for jazz gigs when I want a little reverb when I'm soloing.

I REALLY like my Stomp and don't miss the analog pedals it replaced - sound quality is great, easy to tweak, LOTS of downloadable patches on the web, SMALL and light... and I was able to sell analog pedals and get more functionality at half what I sold the pedals for!

I know you can put a tuner in-line before (or after) the Stomp but I see no reason to do so as the on-board tuner is exceptional.

I am using the Nano+ and have the stomp and a Morningstar MC6 switcher for easy changes in the presets on the Stomp. I just updated it to firmware 2.91 and they added a compressor that is REALLY nice - I was using the LA-2a emulation and it was great but I like the Rochester compressor even more. I do have an expression pedal to put on the board but have not put velcro on it yet.

I HIGHLY recommend the HX Stomp!

Anyone here have experience with the wren and cuff PP B and/or the crazy tube circuits Locomotive? Im looking at adding one of these or something similar as an always on tone sweetener that I can use a clean boost infront of to coax out some more drive when needed. Something to add character and liveliness to the tone before going through another effect or two and then to the board (its an ampless set up)

I have a 5th gear and love it, but not for this kind of application

I usually use the Blake Bass preset from Alex Guitars but just replaced the compressor with the Rochester compressor that became available in update 2.91. Other than that, I use the SVT Studio HX or the Mesa 400 presets. I did have fun with the sound guy one rehearsal - in the middle of a quiet song I kicked in the Fat Rat distortion.

I have started messing with the dUg Pinnick preset - fun but maybe not for me.

When youu use the updater - do the update sequentially (don't skip) There have been reports on the Farcebook HX Stomp for Bassists page of problems if you don't.

I have attached a listing of the presets in pdf format - with pictures!

dude! Thanks man! This helps a lot. my Sweetwater guy updated the unit for me before it even arrived so I’m lucky to not even had to worry about that.

The Darkglass Microtubes is in the send/return loop so I use it as my kick on/off distortion.

The Radial Stagebug is incredibly small and is perfect for something like this.

The HX Stomp actually has an incredible tuner which is great.

Man, more and more I'm leaning towards getting an HX Stomp. A buddy let me borrow his to play around with, but my patience ran thin with trying to figure it out in one sitting after I downloaded the editor.

I think I'm going to give it another shot and invest some time in figuring it out.

Yeah, I'm really enjoying mine so far. As far as I'm concerned, tone is tone. At the end of the day, the audience & recordings in the context of a full-band mix you won't be able to tell the difference.
I used to be a purist about using hardware only, but something like the HX Stomp just makes life so much easier.

I’m pretty happy being a straight forward, analog minimalist. I think that ideology works best for my situations. Still, sometimes I get curious about a multi unit. I’d be more curious if it had a good DI so it’d be an all in one solution.

I will say, I got a really fat tone in GarageBand and my headphones using the “hifi” DI (Modeled after an Avalon U5) and mixing in just a little “Classic” amp (Ampeg B-15) today. All digital. Awesome tone that I’d love to have live.

Yeah, the B-15 is what I'm using for my amp on the Helix. I found that the B-15 seems to be kind of the base for a lot of these tones that you hear on the Multitracks stems from the albums. A fun foundation to work upon!

Curious if you’ve tried the HX Stomp > XU (not in FX loop) for DI use, too?

I have not done that yet. I bought the Helix so I could have more selections for cab sims and amp modeling (without having to load a new IR each time, like the XU). So I like using the XU’s distortion and then it is conveniently there as a back up rig (since it is also a DI with a loadable cab sim) if something were to happen.

before I had the helix the XU was my main piece of gear and my DI.
