XLNT SUPER CHEAP bass overdrive

OK so I never use OD pedals but with so many happy users I had to try one in front of my 7 Pro, SVT-CL, and SVP-CL power rig. Spent a few hours practicing and 1 rehearsal last week. I have another rehearsal tonight and will have a definitive answer soon.

At first I thought I'd leave it on full time for just a touch of OD (9:00 - 10:00 gain setting) but after rehearsal I found it best for some songs and not others.

As a player who always strived for a full, clean, 3-D signal, the little bit of buzz makes the bass sit in a different (and desirable) place in the mix for some applications.

I use it sparingly and wonder if there is a similar unit that allows for gain changes without output volume changes as this little bigger is ridiculously sensitive.

Any suggestions?
Jimmy mentioned a JK modified Greedtone but wondered if there is something out of the box that allows OD changes without gain change. As a guide, I do like the Timmy and Barbershop sound clips as well.

JK- Couldn't find any 1 Meg resistors locally but should have some in the mail today. Will report back as to limiting the overall output gain / sensitivity shortly.

By definition, overdrive is created by pushing tubes extra hard, which is higher gain, which is what the OCD/UD is designed to do. If you want something that sounds like OD without actually overdriving the amp and spiking volume, the Barbershop is that exactly. Also the Red Llama/Greedtone/Bogdan Polish Love, the Flipster or Ginger (if you like Ampeg type tone), and to a different extent the Pork Loin (of the pedals I've tried).

I've just tried the OD with my Stoner Rock band ( read heavy, loud guitars). This thing freakin kills for 40$, heck the pedal is kills period. Very cool pedal. I just need to strip the paint, man that thing is ugly.

Yeah, you'd be hard pressed to do better for a little over $30. But the sensitivity of it when you increase gain is why it's going to be a backup to my Greedtone clone, along with it being a bit upper mid heavy for my tastes. But I won't poop on it at all. If I had a little more room on my board, I'd have both on there.

I just sanded mine down. The paint is very thin and it was done in 10 min. Looks a lot cooler IMO now.

I have and use both those pedals regularly. The UD has a totally different flavor to it all it's own IMO. I don't have my UD on my main board with the ODB3 and the rat king, it's on my second board. My main board has an OCD on it. If you can spare the room for all three, I'd spare it. Their all three great yet very distinctly different flavors of OD/dist. You can cover a lot of ground with them together.
