Yes! Fender 9050 flats!

Sold my 9050L and just slapped on a set of 9050 ML, needed more thickness for my picking hand.
Wow!
Soaked them with some lotion and wiped them down then stretched them out.
Fender and Ernie Ball flats are my favourite.
Ernie Ball 50/70/85/105 for that thick mellow fat tone.
Fender 50/65/85/100 for that thick aggressive punch.
Just a happy man now.

Lotion? Also dont you have to cut into the nut for the MLs?

Yep lotion. JimmyM told me about it.
I dont like the initial zing so i lather it on, let it sit for a bit and wipe it off. Do it a couple times.
Dosent make them go dead, but it takes alot of the "newness" out of them.
The nut on my bass took the gauge just fine. Any larger and yes i would have had to do some filing.

That's good to know planning on getting another p, close to my dream p and want to put on heavier flat, for a fatter sound if that makes sense..

Well, I guess some of the chicken fat legends are true then.

I use 9050M on my fretless Jazz. My regular guys don't see enough market for them, and I agree. Only the big boys can afford to sell flats.

tension and brightness wise can anyone compare them to the GHS P flats (105,80,60,45)?..I went from Chromes (too bright) to the GHS... was thinking about trying the 9050s but never did.

If you think the Chromes are too bright, then you won't like the 9050. They are brighter to my ears. Sure when they break in, they loose that extra brightness but it takes some time... They are also pretty tight. I love them!

They sound totally different from Chromes to me. Chromes have some kind of scooped thing going on. The Fenders that I have on my Jazz are on the brighter side but have plenty of lower mids too. If you find them too bright you can roll off the tone knob a bit. There's no way to fix the scooped tone without boosting something. Anyway that was my experience.

I totally agree. I've used the ML mostly, but just installed a set of L on my AM Std P 2 days ago. Not sure which one I prefer. For sure, those 9050 are nice! Would like to compare them with the older series...

I just bought a 76 Precision with New LaBella 109 guage flats they were to subby for me i had an old set of the 9050,s soaking in Methyl Alcohol threw them on the P i have to admit they sound fantastic.Their a very close second to my favourite LaBella 105 gauge

I'm comparison to the chromes I have on my American std P the 9050s aren't as smooth and refined as the chromes but they sound very good, definitely stock up on them. To point out the light gauges are diff between the two with the d string being .60 on the 9050 and .65 on chromes, I can feel the difference

I tossed Chromes after half an hour... yuck. They sounded metallic and flat (no pun intended) to me. The Fenders, OTOH, are a class act, and in a league of their own as far as I'm concerned. Prefer them to TIs, Labellas and, of course, Chromes ;)

I agree with you about the Fenders but, to be fair to the Chromes, no flatwound is going to sound its best in the first hour. I liked the Fenders better right from the start but they hit their stride after about a month. I've had them on about eight months now and they sound even better. I hear from people who like Chromes that they mellow with age, but I lacked the patience. I kept them about two months and they did improve, but I still wasn't feeling it so I ditched them for the Fenders.
