Definitely a first world problem I only change flats when they break (like almost never) but on my gig basses with rounds, I change strings on New Years Day and July 4th. No spreasheet needed

I only change Strings when they start to "sound bad"...

Think of it this way... More basses = changing strings on any one bass less often ... But maybe (?) more often overall?

Yes..I do forget which strings are on which bass all too often!

I've been doing that for years. It's actually more about finding the 'right' strings for a particular instrument. I like certain strings on certain basses, and don't like certain strings on certain basses. This way I can remember what went on which and when, and whether I liked it (or not).

Too many? BAH... I went to audition for a thing here in my town and the guitarist had a music room
in the basement of his little house that had (no kidding) over 100 guitars. He had wall hangars like a music store
and three walls of the room had a double row of them. I asked him how in the hell do you keep them all
cleaned up and setup/tuned/string changed ??? He said he was a local guitar hero and local high school kid
fanboys came in to do all that FOR HIM.

Me? I am stuck at unlucky 13. Need to break that curse.

Ha! Ha! Ha! Exactly! Basses are my crack. I can't break my habit.

I use the spreadsheet more for playing rotation. Masking tape labels on each case for identification.
I video each rehearsal and try to rotate 2-4 basses over the 2 hour rehearsal. Love to be able to watch how they perform under same amp settings. We don't gig much but play in the studio at least once a week.
I started from zero when I got my current drummer and after 22 rehearsals still haven't played them all (68 total ).
Every so often I change strings around but only when something sounds dull. Only keep flats on 1 of my 2 T-40's and 2 acoustic/electrics. The G&L SB-1 has half wounds, but everything else is round wound. Mostly stainless steel but a handful of nickels too. Slowly moving towards majority having extra light gauges.
I am lucky enough to have space in a large garage for my collection and studio.
