There's one last pew pew for my collection - in it's final year of production; some movie DVDs I've been putting off buying; and, yes, some clothes, were what I had planned to treat myself to. However...
Mid-October, I became obsessed with a pretty rare Canadian Fury Anthem Bass on Reverb. The fact that it was made by the owner of the company; it was left handed; and that it was a medium scale, lined fretless, made it even more rare - and something that I just had to have. I discovered that I like fretless basses - a
LOT. And, since I believe in the herd concept, where each bass fills it's spot? Of course I had to have a short scale, and a long scale fretless to fill the new "Fretless" part of my herd. The "Short Scale Fretless" spot... well, they aren't real common - and left handed ones are even less so. But, I asked the owner of Birdsong Guitars to revive his old Fusion Bass body style, and make me a really custom one. He agreed, and... that spot should be very well filled next Spring. So... what will fill the "Long Scale Fretless" Spot?
Turns out, that one was also on Reverb. And, it had been there for 9 months (if nobody wants them, I guess there isn't much sense making left handed lined fretless basses...) It's a 2023 G&L Kiloton, from the Custom Shop I suppose. I can't imagine it being a stock instrument; although, other than being left handed, it pretty much is. Old School Tobacco Burst finish; A slightly streaky Ebony fingerboard; and, unfortunately, a Tort pickguard. But, it's a pretty nice Tort, a least. I can live with it 'till I can replace it in the near future. So...
I've had it for a little more than a week, now. It would normally rank as a little premature for me, as a Christmas present, but... what the Hell; it's close enough...
