Your Look On Stage

That brings up another point - how does everyone here (and your bandmates) feel about wearing the same thing more than once? Especially if you play local gigs and have a following so you have many of the same people in the audience?

i typically wear the same thing, i call it my "uncle al" costume. sometimes i do something different but usually this is it.

It doesn't matter what I do or wear, I look like a total dork who's having a really good time.

I don't wear shorts, white socks, or white shoes on stage. I usually wear some sort of hat. Other than that? I guess I often wear black.

At past shows I've worn everything from v-necks/skinny jeans to sweaters and camo pants. I played with a short-lived Bob Dylan cover band where I rocked leather. However, when my current band begins gigging heavily I plan on trying out a few new stage looks:

-Full grey suit with red skinny tie, and a dark red knit cap my girlfriend made me, leather dress shoes

-Leather pants, white dress shirt, dark grey vest (my Han Solo-esque outfit), brown sneakers

-Blue/yellow poncho, skinny jeans, combat boots

We want to focus on stagecraft for our live shows. The bassist I've replaced (now the lead singer/synth in the same band) used to dress up like a woman and other eccentric costumes, but I'm not quite sure if I want to go down that road quite yet.

all of this reeks of awesomeness!

Dang, you guys are all off track! I understand dressing nice when it's a formal event (i.e. wear the tux for that black tie event). Otherwise, dress like you're bigger than life. That's what people want. Musicians are supposed to be weird; different.

Get a hat...whatever floats your boat. Get some jewelry...necklace, chain, rings, whatever you think is cool. Get some shoes...chucks, boots, something that is noticeable. Get a funky shirt...roll the sleeves up to stay out of your way. Be comfortable. Put together different combinations of this stuff for jazz, rock, indie, whatever. Hit up some consignment shops and you'd be amazed at what you just might find!
