Zon basses - is everything OK ?

Zon is posting again on Instagram: new basses or past orders?
Kind of uncomfortable to see their Instagram posts after reading this
thread …
The best information that I have is that he is still making basses and still getting stuff out in a year or so for certain customers. I think there are three of us on this discussion who have been waiting between three and 5+ years for their instruments. The reason for the wait is unknown currently. If you order one you might have to wait a long time or not it’s random.

I'm not on Instagram so what is Zon Guitars saying about what's going on?

I'm gonna guess a fat load of nothing. Why would they want to publicize the fact they are d*cking some customers around super badly? I assume they are just talking about all the "cool new stuff" they are working on.

Kinda like how a certain D. Huff is always showing off all the new stuff he's churning out, and yet curiously the folks still waiting a long time for their builds get nada

Big difference is that Huff doesn't churn out ANYTHING. Most of Zon's customers are getting basses more or less on time
But we're keeping this thread up while there are still 3 TB folks who are, indeed, waiting for a really, really long time with little communication.

What does "more or less on time" mean? Are there folks getting their instruments by promise date? Not late, but by promise date?
Serious question.

@Rumblefisher have you had further contact with Zon about your bass?

I'm also curious to know if @mrgittleman or @Rumblefisher (or anyone else that is waiting for an instrument) have heard anything.

Hey guys, thanks for the interest! They got back to me a few weeks ago but I've been away. My grandfather is having some health issues, so right now I'm in Greece to see him, spend time with him and help in any way I can. So Zon is actually waiting on me at the moment to send my preferred specifications for the 32.

@Rumblefisher I hope your grandfather recovers well.

Thanks. He's been through a lot this past year (amplified even more so by the pandemic) and I think it's the start of the inevitable. I just want to tell him/show him I love him every day I can be here, while I have him.

Sorry all, last such post from me. Back to the point of the thread, Zon! I'll get myself situated in front of the computer to focus on the spec sheet in a day or two...heck I may even post it here for some ideas...and then email Zon to 'finalize' things.

Little perspective is always good. Enjoy/cherish you time with him. All the best.

Rumble, here's to making the best of every minute!

I heard back from the shop tonight. The preamp has arrived, and the bass is assembled sans tuners and pickups. They are now waiting on deliveries from Gotoh and Bartolini, both of which (I'm told) are behind schedule... See you guys in a few months!

Glad they're making progress on your build!

Bartolini is really behind on their production. I just placed a special order for some Bart pickups through Sweetwater and they said they won't be ready until November.

Not to sound unsympathetic to Zon and the various struggles that they must be experiencing -- I really am rooting for them, and think that they make wonderful instruments -- but I'm almost glad to hear confirmation that they (Zon) aren't the only ones having trouble getting product from Bartolini.

At the same time, you would think that they would have placed the order for the pickups and electronics not too long after @bigsnack placed the deposit for the build.

What a read! For those waiting on basses, I genuinely hope it all works out.

I want to share my experience with @George Furlanet at Fbass. I ordered an Fbass in 2012 (standard AC6 fretless with custom finish). I loved the look and sound of Fbasses and I really liked that they are Canadian-made. As I recall, I was quoted an 8-9 month turnaround. I received my bass on schedule (+/- a couple weeks) and I received pictures every step of the way; both directly and via social media (my bass was pictured with others in various stages of production). Throughout the build, @Marcel Furlanet at Fbass was available via phone and email. I never had a single doubt or fear...I could devout all my energy to anxiously and impatiently waiting for my new bass.

I imagine COVID impacted production times in 2020 & 2021, but my experience was excellent. I highly recommend Fbass if you are in the market for a custom / high end bass....especially fretless, but that is just my preference.
