Zon basses - is everything OK ?

It's really too bad that ZON hasn't jumped on here to address any of these issues directly, which has resulted in a 25 page diatribe of frustration and speculation.

Joe may feel like TB is a waste of time (as some builders do), but the unfortunate truth is that google likes talkbass very much, when prospective buyers are researching boutique brands. And, the fact that it is stickied to the top of the basses forum makes it feel like more of a big deal and less of a run-of-the-mill gripe session.

I would agree. He's been on here before, although very sparsely. He can end the speculation by either coming here and giving us some honest information, or just simply DELIVER INSTRUMENTS. :) Both would be amazing, but I won't count my chickens...

What's the point? You can't justify a 5+ year wait with terrible communication, false promises etc.

The damage is done at this point. The only thing Zon could do that would change my opinion, personally, is to finish and ship out the basses, then refund at least 50% of the original price.

Never underestimate the value of clear communication. YOU may not be satisfied with the builder directly engaging these issues, questions etc.. without some kind of concrete outcome or restitution, but I think he could do a lot ot of damage control/confidence building if it was at least acknowledged publicly.

Heck, I'd even be marginally impressed with "man, I really apologize for these delays. We've been doing our very best to keep up with orders but acknowledge that our build times and communications have gotten away from us and I want to make efforts to make it right with our customers". But that doesnt sound like messaging consistent with the history.

Would I order a ZON if that happened? Probably not, but at least I'd know the intentions are good.

Having worked there 20 years ago, and knowing how great the instruments are, and knowing Joe as a person, I feel like I have a vested interest in hoping that this can turn around and get straightened out, for the sake of all involved. But if it werent for my nostalgia, I would probably feel differently, and I tend to agree with "the market has a way of dealing with businesses like this". Its one of the only resounding benefits/corrections of capitalism as far as I can tell.

Are you still in touch with Joe? If so, would you be willing to contact him about this?

We are not currently in touch. The last correspondence I got from him was, shall we say, less than positive. So no, not me.

I'm in the "hopes and prayers" category as far as my level of interest in getting involved.

No news just waiting

I'm not trying to insult any one that is waiting for there bass, I guess I really want this thread to start moving along and folks getting there instruments, the thing is this thread just seems to go into limbo some times, the weird thing is I remember this music store in Lakewood, Colorado called Rockley Music back in the early 90's sold quite a few high-end bass brands like Alembic, Pedulla, Ken Smith, Fodera, Modulus, and yes Zon Guitars, this store was a dream come true, they always had a full stock of these instruments, especially Zon's, so what has happened now, Zon went from having dealers across the US to no dealers now and the company is in silent mode!!!!

No insult taken. I wish I had news.

Same. I've checked in once a month since being promised my instrument in October, and no responses since then.
Just curious how your are trying to communicate with them. Are you emailing someone specific, a general email box, calling, etc.?

I emailed Joe about a month ago and haven't heard back. That's the first time it's taken more than a week or so to hear back from him. My instrument still isn't overdue, but it's not comforting to have the communication get worse as the due date gets closer.
