Here's a new patch idea I came up with. this patch closely duplicates the hybrid sounds of a gk mb fusion amp.

GK Fusion

Section 1: bassdrive: bass: 4, treble: 3, presence: 4, gain: 25, blend: 75, level: 100, mid: 7

Section 2: bass bb: gain: 5, bass: 3, treble: -2, blend: 40, level: 70

Section 3: g-krueger: bass: 3, mid: 4, treble: 2, midfq: 250hz, gain: 45, level: 80, color: off, cab: swr4x10, mix: 50

Note: the bass bb simulates gain b on the gk mb fusion amps. you can engage it if you want that tube growl sound or disengage it for that clean tube preamp sound from gain a.

Anytime, dude. glad you enjoyed the patch. this too became one of my new favorite patches. I was inspired by a youtube demo of the gk mb fusion 500 when I made this patch. so you use your chorus pedal with this patch and got amazing results, huh. I would like to try that with my danelectro fab chorus.

Here's a patch I came up with that closely duplicates rex brown's bass sound. I created this patch sometime ago.

Section 1: exciter: bass: 3, treble: 4, level: 90

Section 2: t-scream: gain: 30, tone: 75, level: 100, balance: 45

Section 3: svt: bass: 3, mid: 4, treble: 5, midfq: 250hz, gain: 40, level: 40, ultra: both, cab: ag8x10, mix: 50

Hopefully this patch would help you out.

1) some early Jack Bruce tone back in his Cream days. I know Jack used a EB3 and sometimes a EB0 through Marshall stacks.
2) Supertramp's Dougie Thompson on 'Crime of the Century' and 'School'

Over the years, one of my biggest struggles has been timing and attack -- keeping my meter and not over/under attacking the note. Using a limiter of course evens out the "strongest" attacks so that you don't have a note/phrase that is "over the top" and stands out from the bassline. Just a little "pro compressor/limiter" love so that my favorite effects don't get overlooked

Agreed. the limiter does have a strong attack. it also seem to enhance some of the patches I came up with. I don't use compressors that much, but I would say that the limiter along with the M comp is by far 2 of my favorite compressors on the zoom b3.

Clearly jack bruce uses an eb3 through marshall amps. so a marshall superbass model is the one thing to get that early jack bruce sound. perhaps this setting might help.

Super b: bass: 3, mid: 4, treble: 2, midfq:350hz, gain: 40, level: 85, presence: 5, cab: sb4x12, mix: 50

Hopefully this amp model should do the trick. it also helps if you use the neck pickup.

I took a listen to school by supertramp. it kinda reminds me of led zepplin in some ways. any who, it sounds like a clean bass sound with natural compression. perhaps an acoustic amp model or an swr through an ampeg 8x10 cab model added with the m comp should do the trick.

M comp: thresh: 25, ratio: 7, level: 100, attack: 8

Acoustic: bass: 4, mid: 5, treble: 2, midfq: 300hz, gain: 47, level: 90, bright: off, cab: ag8x10, mix: 50

Crystalman, unless I'm way off base, I think that unless you CRANK the level on the limiter (or any effect) it shouldn't ever BOOST signal. What I'd meant to say was that I use the limiter/comp effects to "take it off the top" when I inadvertently pluck (attack) my strings harder than I intend to -- i.e. in a song of all eighth notes I pluck too hard and make certain notes stand out. One thing I have found out for sure is that compression is your absolute best friend when it comes to slapping; I've never been very good (IMHO) at it and adding compression not only leveled it out for me but added some zing as well.

Nice idea, I've been trying various ways to arrange my patches and have something similar to this. Although this isn't very practical if you change patches mid song. I can't think of a time I would have tremelo or phaser on for an entire song.
It would be nice to have the patch changing abilities of the old 505 and the new B1on where you can pre select a patch without it changing and engage it when needed.

As one of the most crazy organizers ever, I'm surprised I haven't had the inclination to do that. When I gig, I usually have 2-4 patches on my B3 user area; 1 clean, 1 tube dirt, 1 boost, and 1 w/ chorus (but not much, I think just a little goes a LONG way). In my Edit and Share, however, I have a ton of patches stored - in fact my patch folder is labeled Joe's Patch Factory I have two patch groups that I keep copies of anything I see that intrigues me and another patch group that's my 'workshop'. Every now and then if I hear a song with bass tone that intrigues me I will make a patch in my head and then look through all the ones I have stored and see if there is anything relatively close to what I have in my head and tweak from there. I'm still playing jazz basses through either my Ampeg SVP-CL or Ampeg BA210v2.

It can boost it. but it also depends on if you're playing with a bass with hot pickups. all I know is that the limiter model along with the m comp model seem to enhance any patch I create. plus I'm not really a slapper, but they do sound great with pick.

I just, as I often do, plugged these numbers into my B1xon and sure enough, it's sounds great. Nice grind.

I started following this thread last year when I borrowed a buddy's B3 for a gig, and have stayed with it since.

I've been a Zoom user since the early 90's. Yup. I used the crappy first generation Zoom bass processor. The ugly gold thing. I used it live, too. Sounded horrid. Didn't care.

After a great experience with my friend's B3, when I started looking for effects again, I started with Zoom, obviously. I don't use many effects, other than just for inspiration, so a decent multi was the way to go for me. I ended up adding the B1xon to my pedalboard.

My current rig is pretty simple. I use a P-bass into the B1xon, then from there my signal goes to a tc Spectracomp and an MXR DI. No amp.

So the amp sims in the Zoom unit work great for me, with a nice thump and what seems like a wider range with the MXR.

Anyway, I'm babbling. Just wanted to say nice work with the Rex patch.

Killing some time and experimenting with some patches and realized the "Phat Punch" patch is a very usable tone for comping early ZZ Top, say off of Tres Hombres, Tejas, and Fandango. (I was playing my Jazz Bass through an Ampeg BA210v2, EQ flat, both pups @ 10, tone @ 2-3). For refresher sakes, here's the specs:

ZNR: THRSH 17, Detect GtrIn, Level 100
M Comp: THRSH 17, Ratio 4, ATTCK 7, Level 80
Flip Top: Gain 45, Bass 3, Mid 5, Mid_F 300Hz, Treble 4, Ultra Low, Level 90, Cab 4x10 SWR, Mix 50

I MAY have tweaked this a bit but I think this is to Crystalman's credit. I'm going to put this in my 70's rock toolbox and try it with some other bands and see if I can't use it in other places. It sounds good both fingerstyle and with a pick...
