Zoom MS-60B announced... at last

But it is not purely digital, the inputs and outputs are analog. If it works really hard and you don't have the headroom, its power level may become unstable and erratic. That is a good way to achieve unwanted noise in the analog circuits.

I'll try changing out the batteries when I get home today. I forgot the bat life isn't that great.

I have no other effects besides the Acoustic amp model selected, the empty slots are set to "Through" just passing the signal along, with the amp model in position 2 in one patch, & in position 4 in the other patch. It seems like even the empy slots set to "through" effect" the tone of the amp as the patch with the amp in position 4 sounds slightly better or more clear than the latter. Hope that helps clear it up.

A friend that I used to play in a band with 15 years ago here in Australia, who now lives in Orange, California with his wife and family, is back here on holiday, and we had dinner at my place earlier in the week. His wife now plays bass in a Punk style band and they asked me what i was using these days.... WELL!!!

I plugged my MS-60B into a Yamaha MSR400 powered wedge and put a patch i was using earlier in the day on. 160 comp, BB pre, SVT. The Pre is set dirty, and the SVT has a little grit going on. I set it up so she could turn the BB pre on and off, and plugged my MIJ P bass with Frahlins in...She just about peed her pants!!! My mate was straight on his ebay app buying one so it was waiting for them when they get home in a week or so.

I should get comission!! :hiding:

So you have the Acoustic amp, you are adding a new effect by holding the left/right buttons and simply not scrolling up or down to find a pedal model so that place remains blank. Then you are moving the Acoustic around in the "chain" using the magnet crane thingy. Does that sound accurate? Is that just to test a buffering theory? I guess I don't understand, practically speaking, why one would ever do that.

I like trying the amp setting I like in different positions in relation to different effects so they are just blank spots within the patch passing the signal through until I try adding other effects. Some effects sound better to my ears in other than what is accepted as the norm for chain ordering of effects on the MS-60b, definitely use your ears on this pedal. I set the amp patches up that way without using the crane method you described.

Confirm pretty low battery life, I drained the two that came with it in just three practice sessions during the first part of the week. Fortunately I have not had any noise issues running it off of a 1spot either (some of mine are only 1700 mA, one of them is the newer 2000 mA one, I can't tell which is which off hand though...).

It did come in super handy at a rehearsal last night. They have always had a combo bass amp there for use previously, last night I showed up and no bass amp! They said I would just run through the PA. Thankfully I had dialed in the PB OldSkool patch to be much closer to unity gain - I can't really tell b/c it's such a shift in the EQ curve, so obviously a boost of the lows and a cut of the highs - but it feels in the ball park of "equal volume", maybe still a slight boost. Anyway that patch was a champ through the PA, it sounded great. Made an enjoyable rehearsal out of what might have been an otherwise very unpleasant experience.

There was already yet another thread, Gregmon, which had a couple of patch settings listed in it already by the OP. Good idea though. I just can't remember everything I tweaked right off the top of my head, although I have been turning the output on both the U5 and the amp in the PB OldSkool patch, I think I also might have lowered the bass EQ a tad, and... hmm... I've also been editing the reggae patch and think I am getting confused between the two. I'd have to have the unit in my hands to do it right.

Yeah necropain's thread is the one I was remembering... thanks jumblemind! I will post my modifications to many of the patches shipped, PB OldSkool, TheOwl, ThumbWah, and some others. Most of the patches I've made for myself are pretty simple, either just a single effect, like the db-160a compressor model, or just a delay and a reverb together for possible solo use. I have definitely been adding the line selector to the front of all the patches so I can defeat them altogether, too. Works great.

How are the synth settings on this unit as compared to the earlier equivalent (the B2)?

I find the B2 settings (unless using the resonator settings and pitch shifter as an alternative, and that means no option for chorus) are a bit so-so, being either overly raspy or poorly tracking.

For a punchy synth bass sound (Paul Hardcastle's 19 might be an example) the best I have to hand is via the Behringer Bass V-AMP, but then there are no modulation effects available, although perhaps less is more?
