I also saw the show at the Greek and had a somewhat similar take. I really enjoyed Dylan and was initially struck by how different Lucinda’s voice is now compared to how she sounded on all her great records from earlier years. She’s still a tremendous talent and her band was excellent. John Doe didn’t really do anything for me.

It sounds like you just need an online presense to host your content and video.
You are not looking to compete with bar bands who want to hover up all and any gig.
Its a fine line because mostly you need to ignore their venues, but at the same want the better outdoor gigs.
I'd get yourself a very good agent and let them do that work but you'll pay 20% ...

The whole deal is who is putting your band out there. If you stick with low key gigs, no one sees you and its a long process.

The other thing is, you need people wanting to see you..which is on you..rather than being a band in the corner.

Anyone else having issues with a warble above the 12th fret on the b string? I’ve been able to almost dial it out of the other strings but I can’t seem to get rid of it on the b string without lowering pickups too much.

It’s a stock m5 5 string without added copper shielding and a plek job (neither helped warble, but fixed noise and helped playability). It’s currently wearing labella nickels with all but the b string through the body.

It’s not like I play up there a lot… just trying to make my favorite bass better. Perhaps stiffer strings?

Thanks a lot for your response, I've put a post on VGuitar forums now to hopefully tap into these people.

The specs say the pickup is only 9mm but not sure how thick the double sided tape is so i might run into problems with the pickguard. That picture of the Stingray looks like there's a lot more space between bridge and pickup...I think the Bongo HH has its bridge pickup much closer to the bridge and so the pickguard is maybe 5 or so mm from the bridge

I'd totally consider taking off the pickguard but not sure what to do with the screw holes and I haven't checked if the finish is continuous under the pickguard (it's a mantis green Bongo made earlier this year, the mantis green is such a nice colour).

Although I'm not quite in a position to buy the pedal or pickup yet, the more I look into it the cooler it seems!

If it’s usb midi, it needs to have a host to work. Pro series controllers can host for up to 4 devices when used with a usb hub. Side note, the control input on c4 is not a midi connection, you’d need the midi adapter from us for that to work.

Ok so after a bit of shaging around i settled on 2 pickup options and 3 preamp options, bartolini ntmb+ or sadowsky preamp with the mid boost switch (still dont know because i like having a good mid control), or any john east preamp (probally the marcus miller one people said it sounds like a sadowsky preamp with a mid control).
The pickups are either gonna be the bartolini b-axis or delano jmvc, couldnt really find a comparison between them, theyre both not polite and agressive which i like but can also be versatile when needed

To me, it's the bass that chooses the strings.

I've never (knowingly) played Alice strings as I've never been to Wonderland, but Roto flats are generally pretty stiff IMO. They do sound magnificent when other people play them, as far as I'm concerned.

My preference for strings is on the heavier side, regardless of stiffness and low action is a must.

Sometime in the near future I'll have to try the Dogal Hellborg rounds and may find myself eating my words if they end up behaving the way I believe they will, but for now...it's what I've written above.

Experiment and enjoy.

I routed out the.slots a little to get a Nordstrand quad coil and a Bartolini in my '96 LB76F. I.also removed.the.preamp. passive pickups sound so much better.

Honestly? I can’t rule out operator error. I just know that it seemed really fiddly to try and get strings sounding right until I went back to the factory setting on the tuner. I haven’t tried again, but hey, maybe for science if I’m bored some weekend…

I have the same problem. The big problem for me is inaccurate intonation. All my other electric basses have adjustable for and aft movement for accurate set up, this thing is like a cheap kids toy. I also find the preamp hard to see and difficult to dial in a sound that fits a kick drum like my solid Fenders. All in all I think I fell for a Fad.

Yep. I was thinking about the diagram wrong. You are still shorting both sections of pickup to ground, but on one of them you still get signal that way (it needs to go to ground to get signal, but you end up doing it through shielding instead of through the intended route; either way = signal, should be lower signal from running just that half due to losing series from the dropout on the other half).

I am kind of an old Ibanez nut had a bunch of roadies. I used a white model with a bucker and a smaller pickup I think rd760 or something it was rickenbacker shaped. This was my #1 for years it was a fine little japanese bass.

I managed to get them adjusted. Had to just grab them and pull them up little by little, but it wasn’t easy. Put them to factory recommended specs, where they will stay for the foreseeable future.

I then bought a 2nd U-Bass with frets, a Rumbler and put on nylon/steel flat wounds. The QA on this one wasn't so good. The 5th -7th frets were high and in order to level them I had to file off about half of the hight. Since I don't live in the US sending it back wasn't an option. The 9v Fishman pickup had more headroom than the 6v, but the string to string volume was not good. So being a luthier, I started with improvements. I've always played basses with 1.5" nuts so one thing just lead to the next:
pulled the frets and leveled finger board
reshaped the neck
installed medium frets
refinished the neck
It really played well and the neck was much more to my liking, however the string to string volume was still an issue so:
installed a Telecaster size rail pickup in a mahogany sound hole cover, and made a compensated brass saddle. Then I could wired the grounds of the under saddle piezo and magnetic pickup together. I glued a booster ceramic magnet on the 15k ohm pickup since the nylon core strings only have the steel wrap.
The string volume is good and the piezo pickup works as a tuner ;-)

I mute with the pinky on my plucking hand. Works better for me than floating thumb muting. Of course, I'm only playing a 4 string.
