I've been having fun with my Portamento so far. A week after I got it, I took it to our modern service (complete with the dead chromes and little fretless experience on my part). I soloed the bridge pickup with a bit of bass boost and a pick for the first song. I used both magnetics for the next song. Third was an acoustic song so I used the piezo with some neck pickup. Last song I used the neck pickup with synth affects. I wasn't expecting it to work in that setting but it did well. It's much more versatile than I expected.

This weekend I put T.I. Jazz Flats on it. They are much brighter and make the magnetic pickups sound much better. It has tons of mwah now (almost too much). The piezo is harder to tame though. I imagine once they break in, it will be much better.

Apparently the Giant Anteater sank its claws into this Jaguar, thereby encouraging it to find something easier to eat.

I bought the NS designed strings for the Omni and put them on my Ibanez UB805.

They are stranded strings, softer feel and have a little more acoustic bass sound.

Had 2 gigs this weekend and I used the cab with my GK MB200 which pumps only 140w @8ohms. Sounded great and did an awesome job. I may search for another one but it needs to be in similar condition. Maybe the 2x12 version. These bring the boom.

I'm curious what notes are available. A lot of pitch shifters offer 2 or more octaves in either direction, but there's usually just other octaves available after the first octave; sometimes there's a perfect fifth, but I haven't seen one that has all the smart harmony settings past the first octave.

I'd be happy to help you work on your own spin. I am out of instruments and time to do much more experimentation on my own, and the luthiers I work with all tend to be more interested in the same old "conventional" preamp formats. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Thanks everyone for your helpful comments here. Closing the loop on this, I just dressed the fret ends on th sprouting frets:

• I'm very happy that I didn't take this to a repair shop - the job was easy to do and took less than 1 hour
• I followed the steps in this video...

• Really there were no issues. I was happy the frets were stainless steel as it gave me more leighway for error (vs softer nickle where I could have over filed the frets.

I’m in the same boat with my D210XLT and my even older D210-T.
My WT-400 goes nowhere, though. I really love that head and it’s not so heavy. I’ll keep using that ’til it gives up and can’t be repaired.

i too had 4 of these cab's, ended up selling them all, just not loud enough without breaking up imo.....

I believe that generally, round core strings would be ready to gig a little sooner. Less to "settle down" so to speak. Take this with much caution, for I have very limited real life experience, that is D'Addario XL vs. DR Sunbeams and TI Rounds. The latter being incredibly stable just a few bars after installing on my BB734.
I'm really curious what you seasoned players would say about this...

I haven't gigged with one, but I have tried one. It was a fairly controlled setting - no drummer, no guitar player(s), nobody else. Just me playing a bass through it. I was able to dial up a decent setting pretty quickly and volume seemed sufficient through a 210 cabinet. Wouldn't be my first choice, but it will certainly get the job done.

Agreed - they’re not really meant to come out, but the foam panels on a Mono M80 are not sewn in. There are zippers round the inside bottom edges for the front and back panels which can be opened, although the zipper pulls have been removed. They’re hard to see, but if the TSA agent spotted them he might have become suspicious. However, they should make it possible to reassemble the bag, provided the agent hasn’t ruined anything else.

My guitar tech was impressed with the playability of mine and had no issues setting it up. I use it for gigs stock, with TI flats.

If you're not happy with yours, and the tone your chasing is else where, there's nothing wrong with calling it a day and flipping it. More mods are unlikely to help if the foundation of the instrument isn't a good fit fit for you.

However, if you have only played it through your stomp, you should consider how much that device is impacting the sound and feel. I'd take it into a music shop and pretend you're amp shopping. Play through a few amps and get a feel for the instrument that way.

Ps It's not fair on the mezzo to compare it with your fender medium scale jazz. Just because they both have medium scales and jazz bridge pu, doesn't make them comparable. Very different necks and body feel.

I don't know what kind of Ibanez Soundgear SR800 you've got but mine played and sounded great back in the day and I actually have a set of the same AFR pickups I want to mod a bass with.

The TT-800 is a great amp! I’ve had one since COVID days. It took me a little while to figure out the settings and how the eq worked. The manual, which is so well-written, is your best friend in this regard. Deep articulate lows and lofty shimmering highs sit nicely with two guitars, keys and a sax (classic rock, country & Motown). I tend to use a pbass with the Boogie Channel and a jbass with the Subway Channel. I pair with one or two SW115s. The two channels provide a lot of tonal variety and sound terrific. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes easy to dial in a tone.

I just took delivery on this minty used Lionel from the TB classifieds. So far so good. It came with Chromes and sounds very good. Egonomics are so much better than the JMJ.

Do anyone have or know where to find EMG 4 string p and j pickup routing template to print or make one? Cant buy because there's no template in türkiye so...

I remember a slight difference in the "high treble" input, adding a high-shelf boost to the existing treble bleed cap. If the Bassman bright is Ampeg ultra-hi, then the JTM45 high treble is Ampeg bright plus ultra-hi, while the Super Bass high treble is Ampeg bright.

Seriously the meet in the middle is dynamics. A lost art sadly.
