Is this a new Fender? Odd to see it without any kind of shielding paint. They usually put some thin, crappy, stuff in for the last 15~ years.

Even in metal you are gonna be leading the band around the roots. Metal player use a hot sound with gain usually and Id say pick vs fingers is about 50/50 as far as who plays what. It is insane music and you really need to play with a high level metal drummer to understand what it really takes.

Never follow the guitars. The bass leads the band to where they are supposed to be

I have arthritis also and I know you may not be able to do this but moving to a dry climate and getting PT fixed it 100%

I like to bend my right wrist a little, it doesnt look as cool but I play better that way.

I alos have a Rolls 351 and it's great for a "more me" mix. I worry a little about the lack of a built in limiter, but I guess I could add a limiter pedal to the nut from the FOH/main mix.

It's very handy though . I used it a lot more when we didn't have the ability to have different mixes for practice using headphones only.

Some multichannel headphone amps have this feature built in as well.

As others have described, using AUX send channels are the way to create various monitor mixes.

The price of TI flats put me off, until I finally broke down and bought a set.

Now, I don’t even think twice, but I still look for deals.

In the other hand, my go to rounds are fairly cheap.

Strings are everything, yet a fraction of the cost of a bass. Get what you want. Enjoy!

If you're leaning in the direction of something with a more traditional Jazz neck that's relatively narrow, I'll just say that the world is more or less your oyster. There's an ocean of instruments out there that may have something to offer you. I seem to prefer a 2-pickup bass like a Jazz that can do at least a couple of different useful tones, but those traditionally narrow J necks are really rough on my fretting hand. I just completed a 3+ year search to find something comfortably light for me that has a pair of pickups and a wider neck that fits me right (not chunky-clunky). Not nearly as many candidates out there to choose from compared with what seems to give you a better fit.

You mentioned Paul Denman above (Sade). I put his sound on my personal Mt. Rushmore of phenomenal tones, but I'd probably need to include him on a full range of peaks along with a couple dozen other players... four just wouldn't cover it. Any-who, I'm pretty sure that Paul did a whole lot of that playing on MM Stingrays and that may include some fretless awesomeness. He seems to get a really rich 'Ray sound without that extreme bite in the high end that those instruments can produce.

Some Stingrays have wider necks, but some of the imports have necks that are more narrow. Don't worry about the build quality of basses that come from Indonesia. They're producing some of the best bang for our buck out there these days.

One other brand to watch out for that does a really nice Jazz-style bass is Bacchus. They're based in Japan. Some of their instruments are more affordable imports - some of those are made in the Philippines - but their Japanese builds are among some of the best basses around. Again, if you want a decent Jazz, you've got options. Enjoy the journey!!

Springs would be useful. The holes in the top bar are not threaded. Springs would allow the mute to be disengaged while the mechanism remains mounted to the body. The absence of springs meant the mute needed to be removed and always lost.
I have had some success with responses from sellers that have the mute still installed. Just no one willing to make an actual measurement.
Of course it never worked very well.

Which in turn made me think of this thread again. Hope it means they're gonna do Revstar basses.

Very nice, when I was touring with my old rig, I had a similar solution, though different in the execution. I found a hanger that was basically a wall hanger, but it rotated freely in the wooden block that you'd normally screw to the wall. So, I took a pair of them, screwed one to either side of my 8x10, then had two hangers, one for my main and one for my backup, and when it was time to load out, I'd take the metal arms out of the wooden blocks, chuck them in my toolbox, and the cab was ready to roll. It did add a little extra width, but it was rare that that became a real problem, the convenience was completely worth it.

The modes are great, also Ibanez has some more subtle fanned frets. I’m not a fanned fret guy at all, but something that just adds an inch or two, works better for me. After 43 years of playing my hand is used to what has always been.

If I could get any Rotosound single and mix and match them I'd make the following sets:
RS77LA: 30-45-65-85
FM77: 35-45-65-85
RS77LB: 35-50-75-95
IR77: 40-50-75-95
RS77LC: 40-60-75-95
SM77: 40-60-80-100
RS77LD (not the actual version): 45-65-80-105
BS77 (for lack of a better naming): 45-65-85-110
RS77LE: 50-75-95-110
SH77: 50-75-95-110 but more polished
RS77LF (actually RS77LD): 45-65-85-105

Thankfully the neck is super straight! The action is relatively low (not as low as my 6, but I wanted the action to be higher on this bass).

Given my love for Motown, I was looking for a pre-CBS Precision about 15 years ago and came across a listing for a 64 P from California. Started talking with the seller and it turned out the bass was actually a 63. When he sent me pix of the neck heel the stamp was 5 NOV 63 ( 5 for precision obviously) - when I saw that I figured it was fate so jumped at it for $5500. Crazy money at the time but I had it burning a hole in my pocket so whatever YOLO.

Still have it- will never sell it- and gig with it often.

That's absolutely remarkable! Thank you for sharing that. I know a lot of people that have a birth year bass, but I don't think a lot of people could say that they have a 'birthdate' bass. It definitely sounded like fate!

Thanks! Yeah it's got a look, they did a thoughtful thing matching the grain- it comes off a good bit dark compared to many I see. It's got character, I'm good with it.
The more I play it the more I think I *should be* playing it... I wasn't really looking for one, but the offer came and there she was. Don't mind the weight so far, but I'm looking for a cushy strap now to avoid the knot that I know is coming!
