Why have a nice rig just to be run direct?

When playing live you just have to roll with the punches and just expect your sound to change every venue. Live equipment is all about versatility. you almost never will get "your" tone at every venue or at least not using the same settings you have to be very flexible and sometimes you need to...

    Another P-bass pickup upgrade thread

in the discription from dimarzio's site it says the split P was designed to compensate for how midrangy the 1 pickup P sounds and extend the bass and trebble to make it sound more full sounding. so it sounds like it was made to enhance the good reduce the bad.

Mesa Powerhouse Cabs - The Big Boys!!!

mesas have seemed very bright and slightly nasaly to me with eq ran flat so expect to have to deal with that. but they are pretty solid cabs i love how the housing for the cab is so close to the speaker so the cabs arent unecisarrily big they make the cabs as small as possible.

G&L JB verses the 50th anniversary Fender Jazz Bass

im kinda thinking the jazz would be something special. not too many people will buy theese and would be easy to get rid of if you diceded to. plus they already have the blocks you want i couldent imagine justifying 300 bucks for that when the fender comes stock with it.

How would you build this tone?

he talks about his setup here http://www.bassplayer.com/article/high-fire-/May-2008/35685 he uses some kind of gibson or dean with humbuckers like on a thunderbird

    I just scored a Ampeg SVT-VR

P basses get pretty hummy if you are useing alot of volume and gain. i had to redo my P-basses ground before because it was shocking my hands. you should double check that. it only takes 10 mins to replace so it is sorta a "beter safe then sorry" type thing

So why is an external hard drive better?

the only advantage is that it is safer from crashes. and you can disconect it and take it with you. performance wise, internal hardrives are better. (unless it's in a laptop that has a slower hard drive but i was compareing it to a desktop PC)

    SansAmp RBI vs RPM

i want the RBI because it is like my sansamp bass driver but with the mids not scooped out quite as much. and far more versitle. ive never heard much of the RPM from what i understand it is more of a stand alone preamp versus a sound soplimenter/additive.

    Avatar sounds like........

ive heard that wen you turn the tweeter off it sounds round like an ampeg and when you have the tweeter on it has a hifi tone similer to a mesa but slightly more vintage feel. but i dont have one so this is just assumptions i have made from reading others. you should search AVATAR in the...

Can't hear myself at practice... do I need a new amp or an extension cab?

do what i did when the band starts playing. presume to doodle and play Super Mario brothers. when nobody notices THEN you know you need a bigger amp. if evreyone notices politely ask them to turn down. generally you need 4x the power of the guitars but a 450watter could get ya thru

    ----WHY USE A HALF/FULL STACK----

because my 8x10 is so loud it doesent need to be miked up!! ... in all seriousness the multiple speakers gives you a different tone. and the power brings out alot of the good chracteristics of bassamps not usually heard on lower powerd amps. you should bring that tube halfstack to a gig...

Gallien Krueger neo212 cab / combo questions

you should set up your gain to as high as you can get it while still sounding clear (probably before 12oclock and putting up the master for valume i think this is generally the way 12" bass speakers are because ive heard several 12" bass seakers and they seam to do this

Do tube amps really need racks?

also without the rack it is exposed to more air and what's worse wind if your outside. also rackmount helps you keep all of your gear cables,a few pedals, and rack gear. it wouldent make any sense to have a whole rack and your amp outside the rack
