    So I’m making a jazz into a Wal mk1

Cool project. I just put an acg eq-01 into a sbmm ray34hh last week, ill be real interested in how yours turns out with those turner pickups. Im on the fence about a pickup swap in my project. Cant wait to hear the final results!

Thank you! I do like the RS quite a lot, and i do enjoy it under many different kinds of rides. From commuting to cross country trips, that bike just fits me perfect. My wife really likes the on/off road bikes, but we dont really ever ride off road. But, they still make a great...

    Bassists who ride Motorcycles

Hey everyone! Somewhat of a long back-story, but my wife and I got new bikes! I got another BMW RS (2023 R1250RS). Real happy with it so far, its basically the same bike as i traded in but 7 years newer.

Im just shy of 30k on my BMW without any real repairs past routine maintenance. That being said, service schedule for things are short and each service is expensive. Much like i understand their cars to be. And to boot, the BMW isnt really designed to service yourself like my wifes KTM is...

2 months wait: Fender Pure Vintage '63 gone downhill

a couple things: So this is a used pickup? Maybe theres a reason it was pulled out of the original bass? Hate to say it, but it could even be a fake? You just dont know… Also, if you dont have a DI recording of the better tone you had in 2020 to compare, its pretty much impossible to say...

Took a couple days off this week and rode from home in Des Moines, IA and ended way up north in Grand Portage, MN. Here's my R1200RS loaded up , and after riding ~400 miles in the rain.

What does TB think of this bass for sale (fretless content carvin)

Ive got one, not koa (its painted black so probably alder). Its a bit newer than that one but still 90's that i picked up last december. Truss rod may be the weak point, mines about maxed so i put on some low tension flats and its good to go now. Resale on older carvins is about next to zero...

Recommendations for a 'weird sounds only' board

How out there are y Chase bliss habit. Weird but still useable in normal settings. always consider Earthquaker Devices Afterneath for another fun option Maybe something from zvex to really destroy your signal?

Inspired by Guitar Players Rant, What Would You Do if You Are Gibson CEO?

most of the work i would do as ceo or top level executive would not be bass-centric at all. Id be trying to run the company for a profit (if at all possible), and basses just arent a big slice of the pie. 1) Change the marketing strategy to be more inclusive of younger audience, particularly...

    Bassists who ride Motorcycles

Agreed. I purchased a rf-1400 in the same size as my old one, totally different fit. Much smaller. And they must have changed the shape, the newer helmet feels way hotter and doesnt vent as much air. Assume its positioned so it doesnt get as much air as the rf-1200. But it might vent better...

Sport cruisers are where its at! Cool FJR. Not many sport tourers around right now. Thats about the only thing that competes with my r1200rs. Although i may be looking to shift to something a bit more touring in a couple years. TBD, but i think the bike is a r1250rt for the next bike.

    Best “creepy reverb”

Afterneath is pretty bass friendly. Great pedal, id highly recommend it. Could also try the astral destiny, but i dont think that reverb sounds particularly good. Id almost suggest something thats a bit longer time than a reverb, more like a short delay, at least for bass. Afterneath fits...

Was about to start buying pedals - Am I better off just getting a Helix?

I think it depends on your use case. The helix, or its competitors, arent really meant to just replace effects; they replace the whole signal chain (fx->amp->cab->mic) into a mixing board or other recording setup. Im using my helix as an all in one interface, that doubles as a silent rig for...

    Studio Recording Rig

Clean DI and mic’d up slightly dirty amp is my choice, blend between the 2 as is needed. Watch out for phase issues. Let the guy behind the desk figure the mix out, youre giving that guy more options to get you there in the context of the mix.

Sterling Ray34 Sparkle Basses... New for 2022... Unfortunate Situation...

I have a newer ray34hh in flat black (last years color?) The tuners are complete garbage. Not broke yet, but just barely useable. About a half turn ‘play’ before the gear makes contact to begin turning the gears. The rest of the bass is great, so im planning on just upgrading tuners. So...

If you have a fretless bass would you purchase the same bass again with frets?

Identical but fretted, maybe but probably not…. Id get my carvin pb5 fretted, but in a different color scheme. Its definitely crossed my mind.

    Light weight bass

Headless bass. Ibanez if you really want to keep it in the budget. Mines right at around 6lbs, full scale 24 frets, and fits in a guitar sized gig bag. And i think they have a short scale, and multi scale options if desired.

    Q: Novak Bs/Ds w/ Filter Based pre

Ive got experience with the acg, but unfortunately not with those pickups. But can recommend the acg eq-01 if you want filter based pre. you shouldnt have any issues at all with the impedance change. I have a 3 way toggle on a MM shaped p/u that runs into a blend with a piezo for the bridge...

Need some help with a few questions. 4 string player moving to 5 string... maybe?

Thats a lot of open ended questions….. a lot at play in that post. i prefer 19mm string spacing, than my 4&5 string basses feel closer to the same when i play. Id look at a sub for your monitors if you want more low end. Maybe even a hx stomp or something, and a sub to drop any latency your...

    Lobster Reviews the Cirrus

These have definitely been on my radar for a while. These always remind me of the Carvin's from around the same time, which i think are fantastic. Would definitely love to have one of these, or possibly a GV for a carbon fiber neck. Thanks for sharing!

    The Fretless Club (Part IV)

You Can Hear The Bass Better With Drive/Distortion/Overdrive?

I voted yes, im considering distortion any distorting of the wavform before output. I dont think a SVT or like a neve channel is very ‘clean’ at all. Even just on the edge of some grindy breakup, thats not really a clean signal. As with everything, in moderation is your best bet. And if were...

I had a busa for a while. Non turbo. Wicked fast, wheelbase is long and its a machine you really have to respect. Not one of my favorite bikes, but id love to ride one of the new generation ones for a week.

I am highly interested in this bike as well. Seems like a blast to ride. Its a thought to sell my small honda super cub and throw those funds into one of these come spring time. Real excited to see what exhaust options come out.

Boost, or no boost? Am I not pushing my amp hard enough?

Looking at the waveform and not seeing much visually doesnt mean all that much. If it sounds fine as a looper with your amp, its probably working as expected. Your amp is amplifying it to the volume it needs to be outside of the looper itself, adding a boost or other pedal to the front will...

Well, I did it… Now what?

Ibanez headless bass. Mines i think in the 6lb range, by far my most ergodynamic bass. Thats if youd be ok with non-traditional looking basses.

Stereo/dual mono in, stereo out bass preamp?

i can only speak on the Helix floor unit, but its the same software for the HX. its great, super easy to use plugged into a computer or standalone. Not super menu-divey. Tons of functionality. but technically not amplified, if you need power for a cab.
  35. magyk8ball

Why do you need those tones?

i was wondering if this question was more about if you’re a 4 string or a 5 string kind of person. There certainly is a difference mentally. Im personally moving more towards 4 string since i also play guitar and dont use many alt or detuned tunings. But, if your main thing is gospel at...

Looks like a grasshopper, lol. Saw this online the other day, very interesting. Definitely a price point bike. Listed as having a Carb, not EFI which i thought was super interesting and unexpected. Looking at the specs, it looks like it gets around 100mpg which is considerably less than my...

PC guy buys his first Mac

I dont see it directly mentioned, but make sure you have enough USB ports. I think the macbook air has 2 usb-c ports, and one is used for power. So you end up with 1 usb-c, go out and by a dongle or dock, and run everything else (usually a 2nd monitor, 2nd ssd, and audio interface at minimum)...

    Build for maximum sustain

For maximum sustain? Neck through, fretted, no magnetic pickup, materials that are fairly stiff in multiple directions of force. What is your goal for maximum sustain? It might be easier to get a pedal that helps you accomplish this goal. As others mention, max sustain isnt as useful in the...

    Stingray vs. Ray34

Cant speak on the EBMM Stingray, but i have a ray34 HH. Real impressed with it overall at any price, but the value here is fantastic. Fit and finish are right up there with any of my American Fenders. Sounds just fine to me. I do plan on changing the tuners. The ones on mine are junk. But...
