I sold my Markbass LMII Marco Limited Edition 08, and purchased the MB500. The LMII is just too warm when set flat. The VLE is pretty much a passive tone control...you can get the same effect using the tone/eq on your bass. I'm suprised that the LMII has no limiter or mute button.
I prefer...
I use D'Addario Chromes only because my fretless (SX) has a rosewood board. If it had an ebony board, I'd be using Nickel Wounds. I prefer the sound of Nickel Wounds, but I'm not willing to sacrifice the fretboard.
Their styles are at opposite ends of the spectrum. I've seen some of Jaco's playing, but I'm more familiar with Geddy. Could Jaco have replaced Geddy in Rush? Hell no! Could
Geddy have replaced Jaco? I doubt it. I'm a Geddy fan.
I ordered a P/J and a P/J fretless. When I received the fretless, the p (neck) pickup was bad. I emailed Kurt and he gave me the option of returning the bass, or him sending me a new pickup. I opted for the latter, and within a week I received the new pickup. Kurt has always responded to my...
Hey Talkbass Nation,
I'd like to know if any of ya'll have had any experience playing with both of these amps (or any others in the $400-$500 range). I've played the Bugera BVP5500 and the Peavey Tour 450 in local stores. They were pretty good, but I'd like some feedback on the MB2 500 and...
I tried the Dunlops a few months back. They had the perfect feel (texture/tension) , but I was disappointed with the tone. They had the mids and highs, but the low end was missing. There was a big drop off in tone with the low b and e, with both the nickels and stainless. I had to put the...
I've tried DR, Ernie Ball, Elixir, Blue Steel, SIT, and Dunop strings...but I always go back to Carvin (or Fender, they have a similar tone) strings. The Carvins produce a huge tone, especially on the low B. I believe they are made by Labella.
I would agree...the closer to ebony, the better. I have a fretless acoustic/electric with a rosewood board, and a fretless electric with an ebony board. I've found that the rosewood is not as durable, and requires flatwound or tapewound (my preference) strings to prevent marking. I use nickel...
My Dean EAB Fretless Acoustic/Electric had the same problem. There was very little output coming from the G string. I just removed the strings and the plastic saddle piece on top of the bridge, to expose the piezo. I noticed that it needed just a little more slack to reach the G string side of...
How about the STK-J2 stacked or the SJB-2 single coil? It sounds like the SJB-2 is a hotter, more bottom heavy version of the Duncan Designed. The STK-J2 is a humbucker with more wiring options. Thoughts?
Hey folks,
I have a Squire VMJ with the Duncan Designed pickups. The stock pickups sound pretty good, but I'm looking for a little more bottom and growl in the tone. I've done a little research, and the Fender Original 60's J Bass pickups (standard on the Geddy Lee model) may be what I need...
I have a 2009 Carvin fretless B5, which is sweeeeet. I've had a few others in the past, but I've sold them. It's a matter of ordering the correct body wood, neck/fretboard wood, and pickup combination. Also, make sure you send it back before the 10 day trial period ends.
When I first heard Burton's isolated bass tracks, I was suprised how simple they were compared to what I thought he was playing. I always assumed that he was playing the guitar parts. He does a pretty cool little melody during "Cannot kill the family, battery is found in me", but it's buried on...
It's fun to debate who the best this, or best that is, but it can never be quantified. Every musician has developed a style that is unique to them. After all, music isn't a competition...it's not about who can play the most bpm on a drum kit...or who can slap/pop the fastest on a bass...all that...
I have the Phase 90. It nails the Stranglehold and Have A Cigar bass tones, but also sounds cool with slap/pop techiques. It does not create any overdrive.
This is my Carvin B5 Fretless. It features a mahogany body, maple neck and ebony fretboard. It's active/passive, and the humbucker can be tapped. It has a sweet tone and I love the versatility.
The ones that I've tried, and disliked were: Dightech Bassdriver, Sansamp Bassdriver DI, Sansamp VT Character, Line 6 Bass FloorPod, and the Ashdown distortion.
The only two that I've tried and liked were: Boss Bass Overdrive and the MXR M-80 DI+. I prefer the M-80 for its tone options and...
I purchased one when they first came out, but I got rid of it after a couple of weeks. I didn't like the tone at all. The clean tone was bland, and the AGS mode was weak. I'll stick with the M-80.
What's up Talkbass? I've been checkin' out the forums for a couple of years now. I guess my registration is long overdue. Anyway, I'm sure a few of you own, or have played an SR505, Stiletto Custom 5, or Stiletto Elite 5. I've narrowed it down to these three. The 08' Elite is $80 cheaper than...
