This is my bass that I just love. Aria STB Series. Paid £40 for it, fitted a Quarter Pounder and Chromes and it plays and sounds amazing. I'm selling off a few basses as I don't need them all but I just cannot bring myself to sell this one, I don't think we'll ever part.

Not a Fender but I went for my favourite combination of burst/tort/rosewood with Quarter Pounder, Chromes, bridge cover & flat top knobs for good measure on my Aria STB Series. The classic P sound & look IMO :) all done for a little over £100 :smug:.

I think the Ampegs are higher powered, this Ashdown one is only 60 watts with two 10" cabs, but it does still have that Ashdown tone. For rehearsals and small pub gigs it does fine. I don't know what they fetch in the U.S. but over here in the U.K. you can pick up used Yamaha RBX374s all day long for the equivalent of $200. I love Yam basses and I'd say an RBX would be a perfect all rounder to start with.

If you look under the lower bout you can see a pronounced 'seam'. I'm wondering if this is a vinyl wrap like you see on cars. It has the same low gloss sheen as a vinyl wrap.

I think Mongo2s idea is exactly what I'm after. I have a Yam RBX374 which plays really nicely, no fret buzz or any other issues apart from that I would like the action a tiny bit lower, but the saddles are bottomed out, it won't go as low as my Yam BBG5S which has lovely (for me) super low...
