Can you switch between short and regular scale without constantly being a half step off?

I switch between a P bass and a Gibson EB3 with little difficulty (I also will jump from 34" P bass to a 40 something inch upright bass)....

  10. primusfan1989

Are you a plug in and play bassist?

Yes, only pedal is a tuner typically and I typically set the EQ flat and adjust to the room, it never takes more than 5 min to dial in
  11. primusfan1989

Can I just take my J bass to a gig and leave the P behind

I bring a p and j to gigs but typically only use one for a gig, the other is for a back should something happen (which I only recently started doing this summer after breaking an A string mid gig)

    Understanding the Fretboard better

    Stop using tabs
  13. primusfan1989

Fretting with pinky - what if I can't?

Then don't use your pinky. It is not required that one uses their pinky, it might make some passages harder to play but if there's a will there's a way

ebay purchase, feel a little misled

At what point are you responsible for knowing what you're buying? The body looks small in the picture...you weren't mislead.
  15. primusfan1989

Im not really particularly attached to any piece of gear I own, they're all tools to me.

Is this amp going to work with bass ?

You could use it as a practice amp but just don't push it too hard or you'll likely blow the speaker
  18. primusfan1989

    acoustic bass, yeigh or neigh?

I still haven't met an ABG that does it for me, that being said I play upright
  19. primusfan1989

10’s for short scale - any truth to this?

This is false, a driver of a given size can have radically different sound depending on the cabinet its mounted into, is it ported and so on. Go play a bunch of different stuff and figure out what sounds best to you
  20. primusfan1989

    What do you call it?

Its contextual for me in regards to whether it is a suspended 2nd or extension of the 9th. CDG is Csus2, CEGBbD is C9

Craigslist Ad: "Some Gigs may be unpaid" Would you sign up for this gig?

They lost me here, this statement doesn't make sense. The following statement are also red flags for me personally "your pay will be discussed privately, some gigs may be unpaid as we work you into the project" So they're looking for an unpaid intern? "We do live looping"
  22. primusfan1989

    Why don’t you play a six-string bass?

I played a six for a couple years, I loved it except I struggled to get a good tone out of it, went back to passive fenders 4 strings and haven't really looked back

Question for those of you that mod your basses

I mod most of my instruments, the only "standard mod" I have is upgrading pots, cap and output jack unless there already quality components inside the instrument.
  24. primusfan1989

Discovered the 'modes' and I'm confused....

The blues scale is more related to the minor pentatonic scale than it is to any of the modes.
  25. primusfan1989

    Active EB3?

I could be wrong but Im willing to bet you bass has an "Aztec" already in it. Furthermore, Mike Watt was playing EB3 basses with Lane poor pickups and preamps added I believe. More info could be found on his website

    Double Bass Upright basses

I play both, they are different beasts but at least all the notes are played out the same, you could walk up to one today and likely get some basic stuff you already know out of it If you're serious about learning upright I wouldn't suggest and Electric upright of any sort, Id suggest you find...

How/Where to sell vintage 6 string guitar Tele Deluxe

The vintage guitar shop will also offer considerably less than market value, the store will charge market value for the guitar and won't buy it unless they can make money off of it. To get the best price you'll have to sell privately, either reverb/ebay or having on consignment in a shop...

mid 70s twin reverb as an all purpose amp

for low volume it should work fine. Unplug the internal speakers and hook it up to 4ohm bass cab (or two 8ohm) and it would have enough juice to play with a drummer
  30. primusfan1989

    3 8ohm cabs in series/paralell

If you amp say "4ohm min" I would say yes it is likely you'd cause damage
  31. primusfan1989

    Bassman 300 Pro, Ohms...

I wouldn't run that amp with an incorrect impedance, if we were talking about an 60s-70s Bassman Id say go for it, the transformers were pretty robust and will handle the mismatch. I would not have the same expectation on any piece of fender equipment post 1980s.

Anyone else like guitar cabs and amps for bass?

    Guitar Amps.... Yes. Guitar Cabs...No
  33. primusfan1989

    Guitar Players with harsh tone!

No its not, seeking advice on how to speak to your guitar player about improving tone without coming off like a jerk and upsetting band dynamics would be "management".... this topic really has nothing to do with the bass guitar

  38. primusfan1989

Would you buy a Fender Bass V if Squier reissued it?

If it was made well Id be tempted. I played a 1966 Bass V in sherwood green, I fell in love with it....but not enough to spend 6k lol
  39. primusfan1989

    Who got you interested?

John Entwhistle made me first take notice, Les Claypool made me start seriously studying the bass . The irony is I don't slap or tap, very much a groove player but ole Les was the one that made me shift my focus on guitar to bass
