Found a cool old bassist, need some help?

Hey. I read about this on basschat.co.uk too. It's great to hear that everything is working out. Well done to the OP. @Andre: Forget about the negative remarks and critisism you have recieved. They are like rats, you are never more than 3 meters away from an arse ass hole! (edited for...

    The Infamous Band Name Thread

I was in a band called 'The Linda McCartneys'. We got told to change the name before a gig as it was deemed unsuitable. [We did have a band logo with a big beef burger on it, I suppose]

    Combo vs Cab

Am I getting old, or does '~$3000' + 'just for fun' + 'I'm 16' + 'first band' seems a crazy combination. I've been playing bass for years and never spent that kind of cash on an amp. Maybe I'm just jealous ;)

    Yamaha RBX 375 used question

Not quite sure what it equates to over in the states, but I have an RBX374 and only paid £150 new for it. You can get a new one now for about £220 (things are getting expensive at the mo') Seems a lot for what it is. (It's a great bass by the way)

Thanks pacman, I knew there must be a good use for all that makeup and stuff my wife keeps buying. ;)

    Complaints from Sound guy....

I figured out what was making the noise. It's the sound of my E string hitting the exposed metal of the pickup under the string. The pickup is quite high and unlike my previous bass, has 4 metal circles (one for each string) on top. I generally play directly over the neck pickup, so I'm gonna...

Should Bass Hang Low Or High

I don't know about 6 options, I always put people into one of 2 categories: Bra Strappers (high) and Jock Strappers (low) :D As for me, I pull the strap shorter for more complex lines and lower the strap a bit for the faster picked ones. That works for me.

    I've just fallen in love

With a squier vintage modified fretless jazz bass. Invalid Link Removed I went to a local music shop yesterday and had a play on a few. I hated the squier precisions, but really like the tone/feel of this one. Are they any good? I've never played one before, but have never been a fan of...

    Complaints from Sound guy....

Thanks for all the comments. I don't have huge issues ith our sound guy, he is doing a good job, I just need to get to the bottom of this sound issue. I'm going to spend some time tomorrow working on it. A few answer to theose above: 1) My bass doesn't do 'passive' 2) I put a new battery in...

    Complaints from Sound guy....

I just realised that before I sold all my effects, I was running a small amount of compression on my behringer v-amp. He has only commented since I got rid of the effects. Can't wait to have a play around with the settings on sunday.... As for the slap in church comment, yeah I get to play lots...

    Complaints from Sound guy....

FWIW. I'm using a Yamaha RBX374 and you're right, It has quite a low action and the pickups are quite high. The DI is behringer one. It has a DB Pad control, but I've left it at 0DB (rather than -10 or -20). Also, I do play with my master volume on the bass at about 3/4.... I'll try plugging in...

    Complaints from Sound guy....

I have been getting some comments about the sound of my bass from the guy on the sound desk at my church and wanted to ask some advice. He complains that my sound is always 'clipping', but I am not convinced that that is actually what he means. By 'clipping' I would expect that the level...

Stage-left or stage-right? What is your preference?

For church I usually play stage left, but stand on the right of the guitarist (that way I can see what he's playing in instrumental bit (drummer is behind me, so I get plenty of bass drum and hit-hat in my ear). If i'm singing/leading I put myself in the centre so I can signal to singers and...

The worst amp I've ever owned

My first bass amp was a donated Kay guitar amp. It looked like the one below and sounded awful. I tried to trade it in a few years ago for a trace elliot amp and the music shop laughed in my face! They took it anyway as a good will gesture (and presumably took it to the scrap yard). [Invalid or...

    danelectro pedal question

I had a grilled cheese (yellow) distortion and whatever the blue chorus pedal was called (milkshake?). I gave them away. They hissed like mad regardless of whether they were bypassed or not. They were pretty flimsy and I would never recommend them to anyone! The chorus had a reasonable sound to...

    Ashdown 4-Way Footswitch?

I emailed Ashdown directly about it and got this response from Chris Bates.... "Umm not good, going to put a 4 way somewhere for sure this should have been on our website ages ago, thank you for the info. Cheers, Chris" That was on 22nd Jan, so I'm guessing they will appear soon.

How much gear would you guess is ruined yearly?

I was half way through a gig in our university bar a few years ago, when the (borrowed) bass amp just died. Turned out some idiot put a 3amp fuse in the power lead! Now I never borrow equipment. (I once blew up my old cassette walkman by plugging it into my Commodore 64 power supply. At 8...

So I finally went to Doncaster and tried out a Markbass amp. I tried the Jeff Berlin signature 15" combo and it sounds amazing. I A/B'd it with a Ashdown ABM 500 head on a 210 cab and the ashdown was really hissy and flat sounding on comparison. I don't remember the ashdown 115 soundsing...

    Ashdown ABM / footswitch ?

Email Ashdown directly. I sent them an email about how to get hold of a 4-way footswitch and they said that they should be available directly from their online shop and that it would be added to the shop ASAP. I'm sure they would sell you one directly.

    Ashdown little giant

Remember that the 1000 isn't 1000. Its 2 x 500 watt amps, so if you want all that power you will need to drive 2 4OHM cabinets. You can pick the LG350 up for £200 plus postage on ebay, or £220 in shops. The shop I went in today said that the price was being put up in feb and that the £220 price...

DI into PA or seperate Amp

@TVBBass - Yeah gonna just get a nice head and save up for a cab later. I had a look at the trace elliot cabinet which is in our church PA cupboard. It's a 115. I'll use that to start with then I will probably get a 210. Then I can use the 2 together if we every needed to. @rockstar - The V-Amp...

I've just been and tried one of these amps out and thought that I would share my experience.... I tried a LG350 (green one) into an Ashdown MAG 115 cabinet. I also tried out an ABM500 115 combo and a MAG300 115 combo so that I could do a direct comparison. Firstly, the sound. It sounds much...

@TVBBass Hi, I took a trip to boston and went to "The Roadhouse Music Store" today. www.roadhousemusic.co.uk They are really good. It's quite a small shop, but it was crammed with stock. They stock a number of big brand products (Ibanez/Mashall/Ashdown/hercules stands etc etc). I tried out a...

    Talk me out of this

I've had some really good Behringer stuff (DI-Boxes, Rack tuner and my FCB1010 foot controller), but I've also had problems - Mixing Desks etc. It depends on what it will be used for - A friend just started learning Bass and I suggested a 15W behringer practice amp to start with. That's ok...

    Yamaha RBX Strings

Anyone know what string would have come on my Yamaha RBX374? I bought it new about 18 months ago. I think they are D'Addario as they have the 4 different coloured ends. I used to use Rotosound (40,60,80,100) strings, but the ones on my RBX seem thicker. Anyway, I'd like to buys another set...
