Ibanez Ergonomic Headless Bass (EHB) club

A couple weeks in with my first 5-string AND my first multiscale (1505ms), and I'm a bit shocked how differently I play this instrument than my 4s. I find myself hovering around frets 5 & 7 rather than at the nut. It certainly has me breaking my old routines. I'm not sure how I feel about the...

Ibanez Ergonomic Headless Bass (EHB) club

After a long hiatus in bands, I picked up my first new bass in a while, an EHB1505MS. It's my first 5 string and my first multiscale. Sitting down with it at home was fine, but standing up that first time with it at rehearsal, with all that muscle memory to combat, was a bit of a nightmare...

Future Impact now available!! WAS: deep impact reissue!!! interested?

I guess this warrants a little back-tracking then - I looked up my service emails - though this is a side-topic. What I was trying to do was add an EXP pedal to an ES-5 setup that already had an external switch. That’s not an option with the ES-5 - you can do one or two switches OR one...

Future Impact now available!! WAS: deep impact reissue!!! interested?

it’s been a good long while since I was trying to do this. At the time, I could only toggle on/off with the EXP pedal. Maybe I was doing something wrong back then, maybe it was a FW revision, idk? in any case, the DMC.micro ended up working very well for me. It was when I had challenges using...

Future Impact now available!! WAS: deep impact reissue!!! interested?

The DMC.micro is a great little pedal for up to 4 supported devices. And you can finally define CCs for newer, undefined MIDI devices. And you can do everything but name presets on the DMC itself. the MIDI Baby is a little more interesting to me because it’s just regular old midi messages sent...

Did greenboy just kill the Fearful ?

I’m still using the two 15/6s w/ CBGs that I built (wow) 9 years ago. They are my gold standard for other designs that I’ve toyed with and/or built - and they can still sound better and are more versatile than any big name cabs. What brought me here today was me wondering if I should build a...

    Darkglass Adam

I’ve been waiting for this update - very excited! So I did a quick video on how the A.D.A.M. plays with the BOSS ES-8 MIDI controller since the update. CAUTION: It uses PCs to save to presets, which is a bit risky and requires some care so you don’t mistakenly overwrite the presets you already...

    Epiphone Explorer Tuner Setup

I have an Epiphone Korina Explorer that I set up in BEAD. I didn't like the extreme angle of the strings exiting the nut to the tuner posts. So I reversed the turn. Now the three strings are nearly straight. Of course, when tuning, I need to switch directions midway through. I like it. Any...

SHOW US YOUR MODDED JACK CASADY

Photos, as promised. Solid knobs, Flush-mount strap locks, and looking closely, different size side dots. You can't see the mil-spec switch. I use stainless steel Elixirs on this bass.

SHOW US YOUR MODDED JACK CASADY

I love my JCB. Mine is the blue one. With the switch, she goes from sweet to gnarly. I mostly play Explorer-shaped basses (Warmoth and an Epi Korina). The JCB sits on my body quite a bit differently than they do. For one thing, the neck reach is a lot less than with my 'splorers, and it sounds...

    Worst Neckdive You've Experienced

Surprisingly, My Epiphone T-bird Classic Pro wasn't bad. My favorite bass, a full Warmoth parts build with an Explorer-style body sits perfectly. I can grab the mic, walk around, whatever. It's perfectly balanced. My Epiphone Korina Explorer bass is not great. It slips, but at least I can rest...

So your bass has a hum

I thought I had bought a well-shielded bass, added coated strings and suddenly there was a nasty hum. I have some experience with shielding, but this thread served as a great set of additional ideas - foil behind the bridge, for example. In this case, there was no shielding around my pickups -...

    coated string and grounding!?

I was having the exact issue as the OP on a recent bass purchase. Sounded great, added DR BBs and suddenly I got buzz that stops when I touch the bridge. I just fixed it. The main control cavity was well-shielded. The pickups were not. It's running an older BassLines P/MM setup with a Seymour...

Shout out to BTPA solderless cables!!

I just used the Disaster Plugs for my build as well. I wish I'd found the BTPAs before I ordered two kits + extras. But they were still well worth the money. I really like that they act as either straight or angled plugs. I wouldn't say they're easier than George L's though because of the itty...

Anyone bought the Jack Casady in Chicago Blue Pearl?

I definitely like the blue better than the goldtop. But I'd gladly take another JC in white - it's the only color I was considering until I saw it in blue. I already own an Explorer and a Thunderbird in white. I think white instruments look great on stage.

That was a long time ago. And I was liking the ultra-bright tones back then. It's a different story today.

Anyone bought the Jack Casady in Chicago Blue Pearl?

I wish I knew what strings it shipped with. They sound pretty good (for now), but feel a little rough. They have red thread on the ends. I know JC uses and recommends Blue Steels. I used those back in the early 90s, and I remember changing them almost weekly, boiling sets when I was broke...

I don't have a Guitar Center Slap Riff...

Nice job - There was almost a coffee fatality while reading this thread title! We've all been there. I play my own riffs. Oh, and headphones on an amp with a line out help sometimes - depends what you're testing.

    Cabinets for Mesa Walkabout (Fearful?)

This would be pretty much anyone who ran a DI out of this amp to FOH - which would be most people trying to use this anemic amp on stage with one cab. Is not that a fearful wouldn't make the most of this amp. It's that the amp wouldn't take full advantage of the fEARful.

    Cabinets for Mesa Walkabout (Fearful?)

You want a light-weight, DIY, single driver option that will take advantage of 4Ω at low wattages? Here's mine: FaitalPro 12PR300 4Ω driver in a ported flip-top cab. The cab alone is 28 lbs. The whole rig with cables is 40 lbs total. The Orange Terror Bass 1000 is hardly a low watt cab, but I...

    best 12" drivers

Just a thought: If you like the sound of your Mesa 212 and your dad's an electrical engineer, and you want a design project to work on together, just get another Mesa cab and build a kickass AMP. :)

    My terrible Mike Arnopol experience

It sure sounds like Mike went far beyond the call of duty in trying to solve this problem - after a year of the cab being used. I can positively say that I would never have even expected him to be so generous in trying to solve the problem had I been the customer. No luck in fixing it, of...

Official Darkglass Club Part III..... Did someone say fuzz??!

I'm currently using a B7K and a Duality. I don't think I could do without the B7K now, and it's probably the most adjusted pedal on my board. Depending on the song, I adjust the blend and gain quite a bit and it's almost always on. I'm also VERY glad that when I went to order the B3K, they only...

    Thunderbird Club Pt 6

Another Black Beauties fan. Finger style, they wear pretty evenly at both the pups and frets I tend to abuse: 5, 7, 9 & 10, 12. It is kind of fun to watch. :) I think they sound good out of the box and stay that way for a while. My other favorite, Hi Beams, tend to need several days of...

    Thunderbird Club Pt 6

I really do like that trans black pro iv, and I may pick one up. But my mod is a little different than just adding an active tone circuit. I want this tbird to have P/J pickups. I'll have another bird with humbuckers and an active EQ.

    Thunderbird Club Pt 6

I recently bought a white Epiphone T-Bird Classic IV Pro. My first Tbird - and I can't believe how much I love this bass. I'm a convert. Please add me to the club. Link Removed I currently play in two gigging bands. The sound is a perfect fit for one of them, but maybe not so great for the...

SVT 4 Pro line out / XLR hum

I'm all for you figuring out what the issue is, and I'll pay attention to this thread, but my easy fix was putting a Sansamp BDDI in the effects loop. I may not know what the exact problem with my SVT-4Pro's DI output was, but in my case the BDDI is always much quieter. It's a great pedal to...

Lightening the load, but still need "big" cabs

I loved building my fEARful 15/6/1 cabs. It was a great experience, and there is a ton of support from both DIYers and ABs (and Greenboy himself). They walked me through the tricky parts. The money I saved was mostly on drivers. At the time there were several open box units on ebay. otoh, I had...

need heelp with sansamp bass driver di

If you have checked both cables and it doesn't work with a new battery, it's defective. You say you get just a quiet, distorted sound - it's something in the circuit. An adapter won't fix that. If you don't feel comfortable opening it up, then return it.

need heelp with sansamp bass driver di

Sometimes you just get a bad pedal (from any manufacturer). It sounds like that is the case here. Return it. I bought a new BDDI from GC that blew out the second I plugged in the battery.
