Massive hum from old Jazz on one odd amp???

I've got this old 04 Affinity Jazz, bone stock electronics. I looked under the pick guard, and its basic cheap, though with large Pots. It plays and sounds just fine through my other amps. When I pair it with the 20 year old Hog 30 it hums like crazy, it can be mitigated about 60% by flipping...

    School Me on Bench Grinders

I have refinished many vintage axes, a grinding wheels has always been a big no-no for a tempered edge, unless you have a lot of experience using one. For doing axes I have always used a good file for reprofiling the grind.

    School Me on Bench Grinders

I concur with your assessment that a belt grinder is a better tool for metal working. I differ only in getting something bigger than a 1x30. I make knives as a hobby and find the 2x42 to be a good compromise between the little 1x30s and the very expensive 2x72 grinders. Variable speed is a huge...

Ted Woodfords got a ‘60 P on his bench

Yup, Leo did not make basses for collectors, he made tools for working musicians. It was not until Fender opened up the custom shop and started making limited runs of contrived collectables specifically for collectors with more money than sense.

My Fender Hard Case is coming apart(FIX?)

Hot glue should work, though I have never used it on anything that I wanted to glue permanently, it peels away from smooth surfaces very easily.

My Fender Hard Case is coming apart(FIX?)

Looks like it was originally glued with a few dabs of something like a caulk. Contact cement or rubber cement would likely eat big cavities into the Styrofoam form. I would use construction adhesive "Liquid Nails" or similar without the volatile compounds that can melt the foam.

Tired of modern/digital world. Am I crazy?

No- Sell the tesla and buy a vintage car made before computer chips or emission controls, that any shade tree mechanic can fix.

    Why Did You Start Playing?

Grew up in a musical household, there were always all manner of instruments around. It was just a given that I would play something. Started on piano, moved to horns, then finally settled on strings.

Is there any reason to go with these strap locks over a Schaller?

The only reason I could see is if your strap button is on the heel of the neck, Shallers tend to jab my belly, those look like they have a much lower profile. I went with the low profile Loxx system on all my guitars and basses because a few of my guitars have buttons on the heel...

Help this bassist choose a guitar

If you are patient and willing to do the legwork there are plenty of fine used Squire Strats out there for under $200. I just saw a Squier Standard Strat for $200 on FB marketplace, definitely a cut above an affinity. My local used guitar pusher has a half dozen old affinities for around 150 ea.

Do you regret getting rid of your first bass?

Yes, it would be worth about triple what I paid for it had I kept it. I bought it used for $350 in the early 80s and see them selling used for around 1200ish to 3K today. An Ovation Magnum I just like the one in the pic.

Guitarist looking to get into bass and get simple rig

I don't know metal, but they say on the internet active basses are good for that. which would lead me toward the Ibanez SR line, and they have a bunch of 5 string options if that's your bag. If you have a guitar you don't play, you could trade it for a bass. I traded an old Yamaha...
