Can't even give away the big iron these days

I hope this means my chances of getting a deal on an SVT someday are getting better! I’m lucky that I don’t have to worry about how much my gear weighs, everything i own is heavy, but I have a strong back. (Years of manual labor)

The bar for playing out is set way to low

Everyone sucks until they don’t. Should they stay home until they’re good? That’s entirely up to whomever will give them a place to play.

    My first lay off

You have to keep pressing on until the right opportunity pans out, I met several people who took 12 months or longer to find a new job when I was laid off. I’m still angry and probably always will be, but now I’m at a company where I feel appreciated, but it took getting past several setbacks...

Anyone Else Kind of Not Play Bass and Come to This Forum?

I’m in that camp, I have a decent bass rig and play it sometimes but I’m primarily a guitar player. I’ve just found that I really like this site, tons of good info and smart people, and minimal gear snobbery.

    I’d give your idiot’s JCM a good home...and I understand impedance. :D

    My first lay off

Here’s the thing, you just have to market yourself the right way and have the right answers to interview questions. So you are 65, you can easily work many more years, and in today’s work climate it’s typical for people to job hop every 3-5 years. If you can offer a solid 5-10 or more years to a...

Guitar Center (hardly even a shell of what it used to be)

Maybe my standards aren’t as high...but the nearest GC to where I live is like grownup Toys R Us to me, it seems like they have lots of high end gear. Also, when I bought my used American P Bass there about 7 years ago, I negotiated $100 off the price.

    My first lay off

I went through my first layoff this past fall, I was told on Nov 1st that my last day would be Dec 28th. Went through all the same emotions, upset, angry, was told my position was being eliminated and yet they had to promote someone else to take over my duties. Total f---kin con-job, and and it...

Your favorite band that should have broken up sooner....

Green Day after Insomniac... up to and including that album I could listen to them, after which they became incredibly boring and all the loathsome political BS, and plus I hated Armstrong’s guitar tone which to me became very generic.

Pedals you want to love but no matter what you can't.

I have a TC Electronics Harmonizer pedal that I can’t seem to get it to do what I’m looking for and get the sound that’s in my head (referring to my lead guitar). It may be in large part that I need to learn more about music theory and the many settings on the pedal... I want to sound like Brian...

    How are 6x10's wired?

Ahh... makes sense! Now, you COULD wire an 8x10 with 8ohm speakers to result in a 4ohm load, but that of course is more complicated. But, while I’m not a speaker engineer, I believe there are other advantages to higher impedance speakers...

    How are 6x10's wired?

Huh, I learned something new! I don't think 32ohm guitar speakers are a thing, it must offer some advantage in bass speakers. I can say that I tend to favor 16ohm guitar speakers vs 8ohm. It's also not unusual to run non-matching impedance guitar cabs with the same amp.
  13. AJ78bass

    How are 6x10's wired?

32 ohm drivers? Unless bass speaker tech is vastly different than guitar speakers I’d assume that 4x10 has 4 - 8ohm speakers in it wired in series/parallel to get 8ohms.

    NBD - Is this normal?

I would 100% return it, that will bother you (or me) forever, totally unacceptable. Pretty bad QC to let that get through... Good luck

Which of these things will kill me?

Sorry if this is was already answered but did you confirm that the speaker cable is not broken? I've had a number of weird issues that turned out to be just a bad instrument cable (you ARE using a 1/4 speaker cable and not an instrument cable, right?)

Does boiling your strings make the pot unusable to cook?

(String boiling thread highjacked) I would not argue there aren’t better / more exotic sauces out there (I dig Sriracha!) but in Buffalo Frank’s is the ubiquitous sauce used on the wings and chicken fingers, etc. they sell it by the gallon.

Does boiling your strings make the pot unusable to cook?

This thread got me thinking... instead of throwing out those worn-out guitar picks, maybe I could get them re-capped like they used to do on car tires and still do on large truck tires? I could bring the pick cores into a shop and have them refurbished and recapped instead of buying new ones.

Does boiling your strings make the pot unusable to cook?

I don’t know if you’re also from the Buffalo area but around here you can argue about which hot sauce is second best... Frank’s Red Hot reigns supreme, haha

    Does wiring speakers in parallel...

Now I feel like a dummy.. didn't realize Well now I feel silly... didn’t realize this was in the humor section. :woot::thumbsup:
  23. AJ78bass

    Does wiring speakers in parallel...

I’ve never heard that...in my experience the different methods of wiring speakers was primarily to achieve the desired resistance in ohms to match the power section of your amp.

what is the best bass guitar

There's a Gibson Ripper for sale locally on Craigslist... If only I had an unlimited gear budget. :)

Ugh... just... why? Maybe they were trying to match the appearance of an old tuck and roll Kustom amp? Hate it.. Lol.

what is the best bass guitar

The only correct answer is... whatever bass you like, find comfortable, and enjoy playing! When I wanted to learn bass I bought a Fender Precision bass because it felt good and I knew I pretty much couldn’t go wrong with one as a first bass.

My amazing revelation about amps and tone

I never had anyone tell my sound was bad, even when playing 2 boss pedals through a solid-state Peavey amp. To be honest it sounds good! To me my Mesa Rectifier sounds light years better...but to everyone else it all sounds fine.

    UNMARKED BASS KNOBS?!?!

ManicBass5 seriously friend you need to calm down and let some people here try to help you out which they are trying to do... it’s good people here. I have 2 electric guitars and one electric bass and none of them have the knobs labeled, so it’s completely common that they’re not labeled. Is...

    UNMARKED BASS KNOBS?!?!

I’m one of “those” players whom for the most part just keeps all my bass / guitar volume and tone knobs dimed, and then rely on the amp or pedal eq. Maybe subconsciously I think I “lose” something when I reduce the output from the instrument?

    report button

People actually report each other’s posts? I would imagine, especially on a page with as much activity as this one, it would be a full time job to police all these forums. I did get a warning for trashing reliced guitars but I was new and didn’t realize that was against rules. But I’ve never...

My amazing revelation about amps and tone

This is more or less the realization I reached over the past few decades, no one really cares about your tone more than you do, sounding good to your ears is important because it encourages you to play and practice. The average person simply doesn’t care how your rig sounds as long as it’s...

Hi All, Please move this post if it's the wrong forum, I think this is the right one. I love cool tools for testing things, I have a couple tube amps and wanted to be able to check tubes myself, well my father in law said this was in his basement and brought it over. I love this kind of old...

Guitar insists on playing down a half step - What's the Deal?

My 2 electric guitars are tuned differently for different songs, on in E standard and the other in Eb for songs by bands like the Smashing Pumpkins. On my Eb tuned guitar i use 11 gauge D’Addarios with the wound G string, the sound, tension and intonation with those strings in Eb is so much...

Aren't we getting somewhat "soft" ?

Most of my gear is big and heavy because it was cheap and made in the USA in the 80's or 90's... especially my Peavey TVX 4-10 which I swear must be full of lead sinkers.

Is it wrong to take a screamin’ deal from an uninformed seller?

Should I go and demand my money back? :D;) Truth be told.... it’s more often that I have my $40 SD-1 in my pedal chain.

Is it wrong to take a screamin’ deal from an uninformed seller?

If I thought there was a universally accepted position on this subject, or if I personally did not feel some inner conflict around it, I would not have posed the question here. Also, I have personally not scored any major steals on gear, at best I have purchased a used, broken and untested tube...
