Is Deep Purple in the same league with Led Zeppelin?

LZ songwriting and studio mastering was a step up from DP'IMO. I loved both bands though. Great musicians all.

Going to look at a '74 Jazz bass. Kinda pricey??

I agree My 74 Had the 4 bolt neck. But condition looks pretty good in pics. If setup is good neck straight,I would think about it.

I agree 100%. Jon Lord was the man!

Ibanez srx 690e 4 string bass

I don't get it? Bass is tuned and setup with strings as low as possible with no fret buzz. I have been player since 70's and had 74 Jazz Bass originally, never any problems. Now Ibanez srx 690e bass and D tuner keeps breaking. 3rd time already. Standard guage strings. I just don't get it. Any...

    Berry Oakley's rig?

Berry was awesome. His melodic bass lines put their tunes into another dimension. One of my best choices of bass players. Tune I love playing most is Whipping Post.

    Berry Oakley's rig?

You're right. Warehouse Concerts best. Even one ,he mentions Fillmore album released one week ago,and selling great. I just keep looking up new concerts to save.

    Berry Oakley's rig?

I save every 69-72 concert I can find. The A Warehouse concerts are the best. Not counting Fillmore. Some high school concerts are great too. They were the best band back when. But when Duane and Berry died, they were never the same. RIP DUANE AND BERRY.

    RIP Tim Bogert

My heart goes out to his family. He was a milestone bass player who influenced many to play bass. A pioneer in the rock world. R.I.P. TIM BOGERT.....

    Who else hates jamming?

I look forward to jamming. Its the hilight of my week when my Bro's and I get together. We just start playin' and go from one tune to another, and go into the groove and eventually start improvising our own music. Lots of jams leave us speechless when we just went through 4 hours of nonstop...

When you hit your 40's and 50's...

As long as I have my 2 brothers around to jam once in a while,I'm cool. I'm 66 and my Bro's Are late 50's. We can still rock hard for 4 hours by the time we notice though. It brings smiles!!!

    End of the road

Man We are all gettin' old. I started in late 60's, played until 1987 then stopped because of marriage. Kept just jamming for a few more years and then stopped, sold everything. Fast forward to 2019 66 years old by brothers (both musicians) wanted to jam out of a whim, and first jam,we totally...

Whos the greatest front man who went solo?

In my opinion it was Mark Farner. He is still touring with his band, and his band does his Grand Funk Railroad tunes BETTER than the GFR band of today. Anybody who never heard the original band should listen to Mark Farners band if they want to know what they sounded like back in early 70's.

    What did Mel Schacher use?

I read somewhere that he had some kind of electronic mod right on the amplifier by Mr. West.
  20. D

    What did Mel Schacher use?

Wow You have the same opinion I had about Mel and Berry and Chris. They were my inspiration to play bass. Unfortunately Mel especially and Berry Oakley are totally underrated and it has bothered me for years. They deserve more recognition.

Precision tuning pegs 2l 2r mounting specs

As far as drilling post. No way. I planned on using same post holes, and trimming off mount plate where it overlaps and exceeds headstock. I made template from pics and would have had 2 overlaps and 2 over edge. I figured that that wasn't too bad,but not what I really expected. So Bloomfield and...

Precision tuning pegs 2l 2r mounting specs

You guys are right. Thanks for your input. I needed someone with experience with this matter. I'll stick with gotoh tuners. Again, thanks for you inputs.

Precision tuning pegs 2l 2r mounting specs

I'm changing my "junk" Ibanez srx 690e tuning pegs to precision open pegs, but I'm ordering a set for $8.99 from Amazon and can't find a template to figure how much of the mounting I most probably will have to grind off to fit headstock. Ibanez srx has narrow headstock and at least 2 posts are...

    Thanks so much for that.

    SRX690E

Does anybody know when the srx690e was introduced? I can't find anything about it. My brother gave it to me because I lost my 74 jazz bass and he wanted to get back to music, and I was a bass player.

    Tuning Peg Keeps Breaking

I'm going to get some precision tuners and try to replace the gotoh tuners, because I've lost faith in them. I can't afford hipshots, and on the originals, the screw that goes to string peg is about as thick as a matchstick. No wonder they snap. Well I'll let you know after I measure distances of...

    Tuning Peg Keeps Breaking

I'm thinking of putting retro precision pegs if they would fit. At least it's a one piece shaft to string. I hope they can be used. I'm just thinking.

    Tuning Peg Keeps Breaking

I don't know guage of strings but I thought of that too. I never had a problem like this till I got the Ibanez srx 690E.

First amp you ever played through.

Here's a picture of that amp and the guitar that I used to put out the rockin' bass lines to the world.

First amp you ever played through.

It was a good amp, but, you won't believe it but I bought. Sears Silvertone blx amp 200watt with 2x15 2x12 cab and it totally kicked butt! Loud to the max. Solid state and I miss that amp to this day.

    Ibanez srx690e tuning peg popping

Second time the D string tuning peg broke. I don't get it. Bass is always in tune and I never banged it into anything. There's others of you that had same problem. I'm clueless what's causing it.

    Tuning Peg Keeps Breaking

Don't feel bad bro. I have an Ibanez srx and I have the same problem. D string tuning peg replaced a year ago,and today it broke again. Guess these tuning pegs are just junk. Had. Fender Jazz for 35 years and never had any hardware problems. Good luck!

Would you have caved in & used a pick?

Use the pick. What's so bad about playing with a pick. It seems that now it's a big problem if you don't use fingers. WHY? There's no rules that say you can't use picks in this time. I always use one,so I'm an outcast. It does make a difference. Ask any sound engineer.

Killing my bass strings too fast

I used to wipe my strings down after every session with cloth and alcohol. It worked for me.

Who's never owned a Fender bass?

In my opinion,Fender Basses are one of the most comfortable instruments to play. I owned an original 74 Jazz Bass, bought in 74 and it was a dream to play. My only bass for years. Now have Ibanez srx690e, and it has its merits, but no way as playable as my jazz bass was. Sniff sniff I miss my baby.

Is this Fender Jazz Bass real or fake?

It looks legit, but parts changed. $400 is what I would offer.

    La Bella Tapes

I used la Bella flat rounds years ago. Black wound and they were great. A lot quieter string noises and warmer sound. Round wounds were brighter sound but I always worried about them wearing out frets,so I hardly used them.
