This is a beautiful original 1964 Pre-CBS Fender Precision Bass body. The original neck (5JUL64C) is also available.
It weighs just shy of 4lbs 11oz as pictured and features the original Sunburst on Alder body. I was told that a coat of clear was applied long ago to preserve the finish. If so...

Maybe by 1970 things were starting to slip, definitely by ‘72 it seemed liked that. I’ve had a ‘66 P since around that time(NOS found in a music store basement), and I never felt it was inadequate.
Selling my early pre-CBS 1964 Fender Jazz Bass. Yes this bass is turning 60 in a matter of days. This is a rare bird as the original owner ordered it but due to his band colors he had it custom upholstered soon after purchase in a vinyl (mid 1960s see photo). The wrapper did a great job making...

I know they aren't the same year bass, and I should go with the one that feels better, and it depends on what type of music I play, and I shouldn't care what others think,...etc. But discount all that today. I'm this close to making a purchase (huge for me), and seek some input. I am leaning...
Hey folks
I'm looking for a few original parts for a '64 JB. I've included photos of the exact parts I'm looking for as reference. Hit me up if you have any like this!
3x strap buttons w/ screws
1x thumb rest w/ screws
Thanks!
Two questions here -
Is this a legit Fender '64, and is the price fair?
It's a refinished body, supposedly all else is original (pickups rewound by Jason Lollar), and only other info is 9 pounds. Asking price is between $8-9k. I have yet to go see it in person.
Hey friends -- I wanted to share something really special with those that may be similarly interested. It's a 1959 Fender Jazz Bass!!!
By most accounts there were only ever 4 of these prototypes built at the time and I feel very fortunate to be the next custodian of this piece of Fender...

I know this is a long shot… but
I’ve always wanted one so I’m finally looking for a 1966 or earlier fender jazz bass. I like pre-cbs basses but I’ll push it to ‘66 for the right bass if it happens to come up. Hoping to keep it under $7500. I have cash in hand.
Players basses are ok with me...
Hi all, I traded a lot for this beauty a while ago and have the opportunity to locally purchase a mid-60s jazz bass that I've been yearning for. This bass is amazing and all original minus one replacement knob. Mojo central! I wouldn't be selling it if this opportunity didn't present itself...

I'm selling an authentic vintage CBS-era Fender Precision tortoise shell pickguard. It's as old as 1965 which is the year they stopped using celluloid nitrate and started using celluloid acetate for the inner plies. I believe the outer ply is still celluloid nitrate. It's as young as 1974...

Selling a set of The Pickup Wizard 60s Fender Precision reproduction pickups (with extra white casings). These are amazing exact reproduction of pre-CBS Fender Precision pickups and will work as drop-in replacement in newer Fenders as well as vintage ones. They really look and sound the part...

Hi all — just received a beautiful 8/60 Jazz bass but a bit worried about the decal here. Why is it wrinkled? Is this definitely the sign of overspray? Some parts of the neck perhaps a little darker but who’s to say that isn’t just lacquer changing over time.
I snapped some pics to share and...
A handful of folks have seen my acquisition and then quest to get repaired to working order a '60 P that got sold, in terrible shape, to a MusicGoRound in the Atlanta area. I wish I'd taken pics of when I first saw it! Cheap black paint on the tuners & pup covers, a really amateur-hour clearcoat...
Looking at a vintage 1965 CAR precision bass and while I've seen this on old J's a bunch I'm a little more surprised to see it on a P.
It's nothing terrible and pulling the high frets and a light sand will be enough to fix (according to a well-respected luthier) but my question is -- will this...
Two vintage 1959 P basses have become available to me for purchase from a private seller. While I'd obviously love to buy both, that's not something I can entertain right now (and owning one would be special enough!)
Had an incredible time putting them through their paces and they're unique...
Have you folks ever heard of a Jazz bass weighing this little? I know a lot more about vintage P's and 8.5-9.5 is kinda the range there. Have a 64 and 69 and they're in the same range too.
No obvious routing, weighed it twice and 5.4lbs is it. Something up? Rare gem? Feels very strange.
i think musikraft is the lesser known option of getting bass necks/bodies, allparts usually is people’s “go to”, but it seems they have exactly what i want. the option of veneer fingerboards!! i’m trying to make a 1965 jazz bass, me and my dad are in the process of getting an unfinished body and...
Are there any aftermarket Fender ashtray covers w/ foam mutes installed available? I put foam under my pre-CBS 60P and 64J all the time but would love to have an "original" style ashtray with foams glued in there. I love the look and the sound of them and it's also cool to get the original design.
Picked up a '64 P that's had all the parts changed and wrong things done to it but I have a soft spot for vintage and thought it'd be a fun project. Kinda torn here -- which covers?
Not painting the body/ headstock for now. Carrots are assumed to be first choice and therefore excluded from the...
I am the second owner. I gigged this bass a half-dozen times and, just as the original owner told me, it really comes close to an original pre-CBS bass - looks, feel, and sound-wise. Also as the original said, the relic work on this one looks the most natural and it won both of us over because...

Hey fellas! I was wondering if you could help me figure out this next bass... There's some weird things with it that make me want to start this thread.
First off, there is no date on the neck... it has been repainted and apparently the neck was sanded, and for some reason they erased the neck...
...We’ve seen this before, I know.
So here’s the deal. I’ve got 3 P’s already, all a bit different. Oddly enough they’re all MIJ Fenders from 83-84...One “straight-up” P, one PJ and a single coil P.
A friend of a friend is selling a ‘62. It’s been cleanly re-fretted, all hardware...
Hi. Looking for a 54-65 era P-bass. I'm more player than a collector. The key is
- original finish on neck/body (more worn, the better!) w/original tuners.
It could have pickups and pots replaced, pickguard replaced, missing or aftermarket case, no chrome covers etc - I don't care. It could be...
Hey folks
I recently acquired a 1960 Pre-CBS Fender Precision refin. It plays like a dream but I find it gets a bit honky when I dial the tone pot down. I don't think the pots are original: the volume is a 1966 250k audio pot whereas the tone is a 1960 1M audio pot. I don't know what the...
Most of the parts are all original. Only things non-original are the body finish, back of neck finish, and ground wire to the bridge. Comes with a Road Runner "Sunglass" Style case. The neck stamp has sadly been lost to time. The serial number is an early L Series, which puts it at mid 1963 P...

I’m in need of a Pre-CBS Precision Bass knob. These are the slightly rounded ones used between 1957-1965. If you’re only selling as a set of 2 I’d buy both. Thanks!
Heyo! Exciting weekend for me. I welcomed to the family a 1963 Fender Precision. Bought from the family of the original owner ("Shorty") who performed in the NJ area and opened for Conway Twitty at one point. They sent along some photos of the original owner playing the bass through the years...
A few weeks ago I started a post after I saw a video of someone looking like the early 1960s Willie Nelson playing a stack-knob Jazz Bass. Now someone here in Richmond, Virginia has one for sale!
