2 Notes Opus

Was able to use in my band mix Friday. I love the touch sensitive dynamics, I love the warm wolliness I can get and dig how it sat in the mix. First song we played my guitarist looked at me like I had three heads the entire song. I guess he liked it..It works really well with my Darkglass AO as well going into the Peggy pre. I use this setup for Red Barchetta and Tom Sawyer. Got a great Geddy tone going!!! My band does pop to hard rock covers and works really well for my setup. I love the SVT in HX Stomp which i was previously using but wanted to free up some dsp on the stomp for other things. I first tryed the new Ampeg SGT DI and is a great unit but personally didnt like the SGT drive side. Thank god the Opus came out the next day so i returned the SGT DI and got the Opus. Couldnt be more happier and not to mention room for 5 more preamps i believe. I really hope there are more bass specific preamps added in the future @AmyTwonotes and tbh there's a descent amount of great sounding DynIR cabs for download at Two Notes and are priced right. Anyways I recommend this for set and forgetters and tweakers!! Cheers!

Hi @JackMinion,

Amazing to hear! Keep an eye on our socials and site in the coming weeks/months and I'm sure you won't be disappointed! :smug:

@JackMinion Happy for you that it's working out really well for you thus far. I agree it can be set-and-forget, or a tweaker's paradise, depending on how deep you want to go.

Also pleased to hear you think it cops a good Geddy sound. Having played in a Rush cover band for a number of years, and him being one of my personal bass heroes, I always measure new gear with a "Will It Geddy?" Test. The Two Notes stuff didn't disappoint! I know Geddy was using multiple SVT/810 rigs, but I actually found I got the best Rush tone using the Mesa IR's rather than the 810 or B15 captures. I still only have a Torpedo C.A.B. M+ rather than Opus, so I'm not using the pre or power amps. But the IR's are really good at producing some big, driven tones if that's what you push into them.

Here's a little thing I did up when re-stringing my 4003; fresh strings are key to a Geddy tone, so I always feel the need to rock some Rush when the new strings go on :bassist:

You got a really nice tone going on there! I agree the fresh strings helps with that edgey harmonic tone structure. You should try C4 from source audio..Awesome tracking and synth tones available..I agree anytime im dialing in a new dirt pedal its like " But can it Geddy " haha but most of the harder rock songs we play im near that tone anyways. I always do a crossover split signal in the stomp if your familiar to keep that 200-250 hz clean and eq'd with lpf and drive everything above 250hz mix back and straight to Opus. What Mesa cabs do you use. When I auditioned the cabs available I found I liked the Subway cabs better than the powerhouse ones. I liked the 212 Subway cab and will likely get that one at some point. Oh but you said you have IR. Where did you get those? Cheers!

I received my Opus last week and am loving it so far. I absolutely love the Vintage Dirt channel on my ReVolt, but my only complaint is that it is a little on the thin sounding side. Adding the power amp section on the Opus using the Push Pull 6L6 tube has made it absolutely perfect. Really adds the perfect amount of girth to the overall sound.
The custom 5 band EQ with adjustable LPF/HPF is amazing as well. The clean channel on the ReVolt was a little too thuddy and scooped to me unless I am using rounds, but with a little EQ in the right places it is a very useable option now.
I still don't like any of the cab sims so far, as I have found running one on a P Bass with flats muddies things up too much. I may never use a cab sim on the Opus, but the EQ and power amp features alone make it a great pedal.

Cheers, thanks mate. I only find tracking on the FMeron gets kinda whacky when the strings are still super fresh; I'm using GHS Boomers, so there's lots of clank and overtone to mess with reading the fundamental. When they're dead (which they are again now), the pedal has a much easier time tracking. Using a crossover is definitely a good way to keep your low end intact while bringing lots of edge and clang; does it mean you've gotta bring dual amps out to a gig, though? I don't often take a car to gigs, so sadly I tend to keep the stereo Rick sound for home and/or recording.

I am using the Mesa Subway 212 IR; same one you are thinking of! Got it on sale from the Two Notes store last summer for $5; Best fiver I've thrown down in a long while.

Nice I'll def have to get now! I run an ampless setup. My wife is the vocalist and run through her PA with subs. I do the crossover magic in the HX Stomp outta that to the opus.

Really liking the look of this pedal and it could be the solution i'm looking for.

@AmyTwonotes I'm a total noob when it comes to midi, is it possible to create a bunch of presets and then switch between them with a midi foot pedal? What foot pedals would play nicely with the Opus. Thanks

Hi @GR7G5TER,

Thanks for reaching out! You certainly can, we'd recommend the Tech 21 MIDI Mouse!

Anyone using Opus or Cab M as a speaker level Di/ cab sim for recording or live and wants to share their experiences ?

I've been using a C.A.B. M+ now for months and months, both as my live DI box, as well as a recording tool. It's been simply brilliant! I did a long form review back in the summer, if you wanna read a really in depth look at my experiences to that point.

I don't tend to gig with a tube amp anymore, so I only run the C.A.B as a simple DI box at live shows, and many of the sound techs have come up to mention they've loved working with it. As for recording, I wasn't expecting it to get as much use as it has. Typically, engineers prefer to use a clean DI box, but I bring it with me just in case they want to get a "live amp" sound for the session. At one point this summer, I had to track a song remotely for a band working with a Juno-award-winning engineer, so I sent two takes; one straight into the interface, and one running through my "amp" (Sushi Box LU/UA > Broughton Omnicomp > C.A.B.). I was told it wasn't even close; the "amp" was the clear winner in their eyes.

It may not be for everyone, but it's definitely been working really well for me since getting one.

I did a search yesterday and already read your post, well written and very informative, thank you for that.

I was just hoping for someone who is using it between a tube amp and cabinet to chime in.

I've never heard any Bass player using it like a guitar player would likely more often. The power rating of 100 watts is somewhat limiting in the world of Bass amplification, though not totally unheard of. Also, just the FOH/recording application is more utilitarian. :cigar:
