$67 Glarry P-Bass

I found an easy way to cure the neck dive with the lead free stick on wheel weights. I need 16 oz near the rear neck strap cone. Test it out with some tape to find the amount and location needed to balance it. Then stick them on, cover with something like a black plastic notebook cover, tape that over them. It will be thin, not touching me, and a nice relief to be balanced.
About $10 for 48 1/4 oz weights on Amazon or Ebay. Tape them on as whole strips, then a partial to dial it in. Also 1/2 oz and larger, and some are black color.
Later, I might use a Dremel router to carve out some slots to put them in then use some pick guard stock to make a cover. They will need to be epoxy glued into the slots to be sure they never come loose. The tighter the fit and better the fill probably wouldn't affect the tone quality.

OR get a grippy strap!
Seriously, though, once I got N UNpolished suede BACKED strap (the rest of the strap is fabric) I never had to worry about neck dive again
-And believe me I was plenty paranoid about it once…!

Nicely done sir! I'd imagine that neck is lighter than the factory P neck?
Thank you CC! Seems pretty beefy but I love it. (Real Fender) the vintage tuners are massive also Fender. If I hold the bass by the strap button on the upper horn the bass balances perfectly. The pickup is a great Alnico 5 made in Korea (Guitar Madness) Ebay. Strings are La Bella White Tapewound. Great Tone and Sound! Painted pickguard!

I love the yellow on these things! Wish lefty's had a little more color options.

I have to ask since I'm not sure if its just my eyes or a perspective thing, these aren't 'exactly' P-bass shaped are they? The upper bout looks different to me, especially in the stock photos.
You’re quite correct
The pg is also different

I received my bass on schedule, I had an accident and was laid up for a time. I'm able to get to it now. I'm going to set it up myself. The guy I go to, would charge more than the bass cost, to set it up. :roflmao: Lubing the tuning machines seems to be the first project. This bass is very light. I haven't weighed it yet, but I will. I will replace the strings just on GP's. I like flats, but I have them on the other basses. Any suggestions for a decent wound?

Glad to see you got one before they moved away from the Fenderish headstock.

I have to ask.
Who is putting these things together? Is it some underpriveleged slave labour somewhere in Asia working long hours in a dingy, sweat shop? It could even be children who should be in school. It’s hard to see how cutting the middlemen can reduce the cost that much.
Somebody has to be getting a raw deal somewhere to bring the price down that low, or...we’re all getting incredibly ripped off by the “reputable” manufacturers. The main cost reduction is achieved by using cheap labour.
I love a bargain as much as anyone but I am troubled by the work conditions that exist in some parts of the world that I’d rather not encourage or support.
Hasn’t that occured to anybody else here?
Actually some of that chinese guitar building has allegedly lifted whole chinese communities out of squaler. On the other hand rumor has it that some chinese stuff may be being built by chinese prisoners.

I got one about a year ago delivered to my door including shipping for a little under $70. The strings were absolute garbage - a new set of Earni Ball strings was night and day difference. I then did a good setup on it and added a Bill Lawrence Pbass pickup. It's now my favorite bass (I've owned lot's). It's lightweight, has a good action and sounds like a high end P bass. Even the paint job is respectable. I'm also a fan of the feel of the back of the neck - somewhere between finished and unfinished.

As requested, here is a link to the tort pickguard for the P:
Musiclily 13 Hole Precision Bass... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013FKW5PY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Please note that I described fitting the pickguard in my original post for the P-bass. It had to be re-cut to fit the neck heel, and all of the mounting holes were NOT in the original screw locations.

Hello,

I bought a Glarry P-Bass and also bought a MusicLilly pickguard. It doesn't quite fit, especially near the jack area. The tortiseshell pickguard looks so much better than the white, I'd really want for it to somehow fit.
I don't have access to things like a bandsaw or drill press.

How did you do it??? 20220607_201610_HDR.jpg
